White Balance... What Do You Use?

Maybe this is a weird topic for DSLRs video shooters, because most people rely on AWB.
I've seen photographers using different tools to white balance before shooting.
Have anyone here ever used this?

Or is there any other tool to white balance more accurately and not leaving the camera do the job to the camera take a decision based on any white piece paper?

Any imput will be welcome.

I haven't used this particular tool but I have used other color cards and they are worth the cost (though if you were broke, you could try using a sample sheet from a paint store as a color correction reference). You can also find slates with colored rather than black & white stripes so you have a color reference in every take.

WB presets are pretty good when appropriate. I never use AWB and most enthusiast photographers don't either.

I use these tools in this preffered order:

grey card/preset/manual Kelvin
white paper
white/grey wall
white clothing

If you get the initial WB pretty close, you should be able to tweak it just right in post. Shifting WB by small amounts is pretty easy in post.

My skin tones look great sometimes and other times everyone looks like Rick Flair. I will get it, It's just different on the 7D compared to the HVX. I just don't know the best way. Great Thread.

Unless lighting conditions are really weird, I always dial in custom Kelvin settings. I can get exactly the look I want that way.
