C100: while we wait for canon to make a power EF...

sony's churning out the power zooms, and canon, well... not yet

has there ever been a bastardized eng zoom lens's zoom handle grafted to an EF lens, to make a usable ENG style setup? yes i know there was an optical adapter to make some eng zooms to work on larger sensors, but let's not go there...
 
Yeah I have seen some guys with stills zooms and powered control gears attached to the zoom barrel.
 
You can jerry rig power zoom on still lenses easily enough.
However proper zoom takes a lot more than that.
I would not use any still zoom for zooming during recording.
That's a disaster. Maybe just for docu style quick small "reframe" effect.
Long zoom pulls are a no-no.
Use them for the convenience of a variable prime only...
 
But be careful, if you will use this zoom motor then you should use ring focus because the lense for photo isn't worked for video.


I've seen two days ago, Sony have made a lense with a push motor for zoom.

Vidpro has a motorized rig that offers servo zoom to manual lenses. I'm actually reviewing one now, its pretty nifty.
Planning to share my opinion and some tests over the next week or so...
