Which Tokina 11-16mm for Canon 600D?

Hello,

I’m about to pull the trigger on my first new lens for video. As I’m sure most of you already know there are two versions available:

Only difference seems to be some optical improvement and an internal autofocus motor.

Am I right in thinking that the internal motor only makes a difference for Nikons?

Is the optical improvement worth the price difference?

Is there any else I should take into account?

Thanks

I have the first version and it absolutely rocks. AFAIK, the differences with the II version are minimal, but I haven't actually played with it.

I have the second version. From what I understand it has slightly better multicoating which improves contrast and flares when shooting directly into a light source. There's definitely some chromatic aberration with the lens. It feels a little cheap also. Other than that, its a very good lens.

One problem that the v1 has is that the clutch system for switching between AF and MF is prone to breaking down. Do you know if that has changed with the II?

Not sure. Only had mine for half a year and mostly use manual focus for video. I shoot stills professionally as well but only used it once for stills. Fingers crossed I don't run into any issues like that.

OK, you made me look for the data :p

2013 data
2012 data

It seems the problem is still there. Not a dealbreaker though: it's just on the limit of the reported models, and some very popular lenses are a lot worse than this one (e.g. basically all the flagship 70-200 lenses)
