hey im looking into buying a stabilizing system for my canon xha1. i'm divided between purchasing the flycam 5000 with body pod and support arm or just the glidecam 4000 due to my budget. my main question is will the added support of the flycam body pod and support arm make for smoother shooting than the glidecam by itself. im not too worried about fatigue as i shouldn't be shooting for that long but it is still a minor factor however the major issue is what will produce the smoothest shots at medium to high speeds. thankyou.

If budget allows, you can't beat the Steadicam Pilot for your class camera. It's streets ahead.

unfortunately my budget definately does not allow for the steadicam pilot. i cant really afford anything more than the flycam body pod and arm setup or a glidecam 4000 or steadicam merlin. so my question is should i buy the cheap flycam setup or go for the more reputable name but only get a sled?
and would it be possible to get shots like this using the xha1 with the steadicam?

Go with the Merlin.

You can always add the arm & vest later if you wish.. which is an upgrade path that doesn't require you to sell the old stuff and start from scratch.

Dont forget, the camera in that video has a very wide lens, which always hides wobbles well. Ive done stuff with 35mm camera using a 16mm lens and it was so easy to fly level. The same is true here, those results wont be as smooth with a tighter lens.

The Merlin is great, ive flown all of the current steadicam rigs, and the Merlin is small, odd looking and unusual but it works, and its well built and it will last a long time if its cared for properly.

Dont waste money on a cheap rig, you might as well just save up for abit longer and get a proper movie making tool.
