C300: Which monitor/recorder

I own a C300. Will get the C300 Mark II when it is available. I am planning to buy a monitor to use with my present C300 instead of the top LCD monitor while shooting in a 3 axis gimbal. I would also like to use this monitor/recorder when I buy the C300 Mark II.

I read that the Odyssey can record 4K 60p from the C300 Mark II. However, in the past I had read in this forum some grumblings about no love from convergent design towards C500 support. The priority was for FS700 and other sony products. Correct me if I am wrong. I don't remember the details, just retain this perception that they C500 didn't get much love from them. It may be because of lower volumes of C500. Perhaps that will change since C300 Mark II is going to sell in more quantities. Nevertheless, it is a big concern for me if I buy now and tomorrow their resource allocation is not for Canon products and the functionalities lag behind the C300 Mark II product availability.

I hear Atomos is now not charging for raw bundles etc, unlike CD. Not sure if they will support C300 II 4K 60p. It seems to be more cost effective.

Blackmagic view assist is another product, however not sure if it will be launched soon. I guess they may have more expertise building it than their cameras. However, not sure about the time frame apart from the quality and recording options.

Are there any other product that I should consider? My knowledge about monitor recorders are limited. So I hope the representatives of the named brands and fans won't take offense.

I prefer a smaller monitor and Sound Devices make solid gear, so I'm looking at the new PIX-E E5 or E5H right now. Just waiting to hear if it supports anamorphic desqueeze before committing to it.

The Sound Devices PIX-E 5/7 seems like a nice monitor/recorder. However, it is limited to 4K 24p. Wish they can increase that to 4K 60p. That would be fantastic.

Odyssey all the way.. Sold both my sony cams last year and will likely be picking up the mk ii. In the process of also selling my blade and other atomos accessories and heading the Odyssey route. Had the privilege of attending a workshop from Mitch Gross about the Oddysey, its features and future developments. Left feeling very confident about the product and the company/people behind it.

In regards to them favoring sony features, I think that was just how it worked out with the oem. Sony offered options Highspeed and RAW so of course CD supported them. Canon just announced support for RAW out which likely put a huge smile on the entire Convergent Design team.

You really can't beat the quality of sound devices products, but in this case I think Convergent Design just has them outgunned in the experienced category.
