Which lilliput monitor do I buy?

It seems like theres 1000s of different sellers trying to sell 100's of different lilliput branded monitors. Question is, which one do I buy? Its for my gh2. Thanks in advance.

I just bought the Lilliput 7" 665GL-70NPHOY with Sony battery adapter and HDMI in and out. Of the Lilliput monitors, this was the one I could find with the highest native resolution (1024×600 with support up to 1920X1080). Most of the other Lilliput monitors I checked out had a native resolution of 800×480. I got it off of eBay for about $215.00 (plus $15.00 for expedited shipping from Hong Kong.... Well worth it). I just got it and is pretty much everything I expected. I mean, it is an on camera monitor... but it is not a Marshal monitor, but what can you expect for under two and a half hundred bucks? It is nice to have such a big monitor, especially for focusing and playback. I like it.

I can highly reccomend the 5" 569GL. It has a full range of connectivity (including YPbPr), has a very decent rigid sunshade, and puts the standard 800x480 resolution to better use due to the smaller panel size. It's certainly more than sharp enough to pull focus with.

It works perfectly with the GH2, and at around £130 is well priced - and is small enough to use on top of the camera, if required, without looking ridiculous.

One provisio - the 1/4-20 mounting thread seems flimsy and very short. I didn't fancy continually screwing and unscrewing a magic arm into it, so I bought a cheap (£13) Q/R ball head and I keep the small plate permanently attched to the monitor.

That makes it quick and easy to attach the monitor, and affords a *much* more secure fixing than any magic arm could provide. I was so impressed by the result that I bought another one for the same use with an H4n.

There is also a JVC camcorder case sold on Ebay for about £6 that is an ideal fit for the monitor with the sunshade & Q/R plate attached

Why am I getting "TV output in progress" on my gh2 lcd screen when I try to play playback?

This prevents me from pressing the arrow to start playback.

I've been told it has to do with a setting in the camera not the Lilliput.

I don't know. I have never ran into that issue. You might want to make that a thread in the GH2 subforum. The only issue I have with the 665GL-70NPHOY is when I cut it off, it goes to black and white when I cut it back on and I have to adjust the color dial to bring it back up.

Try this which I saw in another thread and ordered last week. Tracking indicates should be here Monday.

Price $275 plus $6 for Panny battery plate plus shipping. It appears to be the same monitor as the Ikan VK7i which sells for $499.

This thread, while relevant, is a year old, so don't bother answering the OP.

The 665 does blue only, but not with a button. You have to turn down red and green.

The thing i don't like about the 665 is when you try to take the battery off, the battery plate comes with it. You have to hold the batter adapter plate so it will stay with the monitor.

Any of these have blue-only? I could use another one, but if I can't calibrate it... ehhh.

Yeah, gotta go with Paul F. The 665 was the best, that I could find, of the "Better than nothing" monitors which was what I was needing at the time. I like it for double checking focus and framing, but I am ready for a much better monitor now and that is at the top of the list of things I am going to get very soon.

David - I'd like to hear your decision and a review when you have a new monitor.

Yeah, I will post something, for sure. What I really need/want is a good monitor with a wave form monitor. I am shooting with a FS-100, and I hate to admit this, but I am struggling with getting my exposures exactly where I want them. All I have now is that &%$#!@*% histogram on the Sony and my trusty Sekonic light meter, but that is just no cutting it for me. I love living down at the bottom end, and the FS-100 is a great camera for that, but I need precise quantification of what I am getting so I am going to swallow hard and get a pro small monitor, with a WFM, in the next couple of months.

I am in the market for a better monitor and it is a tough thing to find. Had a talk with a B&H rep and he told me the tablet makers are gobbling up all of the panels on the market. So the small-time video monitor makers are having a difficult time sourcing high quality panels. It is kind of alarming how crappy the selection is for under 15" pro video monitors when televisions have fallen off of a cliff of prcing. One has to work to get 720p resolution in one of these small monitors when tablets are going past 1080p.

Gosh I hope there is some refresh at NAB because I do not want to buy under resolved equipment just because that was all there is on the market.
