Which lens + adapter will you buy with 300$ budget.

Finally I've decided to get this lens - Canon EF 50mm f/1.8II.

Main reason being that it's available in India...

Poor choice mate. I found a Canon 55mm F1.2 FD/FL lens on Indian eBay for £90. Let me know if you are interested and I'll PM you the link.

The 50mm F1.8 FD costs £15 and has an aperture ring... the EF is 10x more expensive and doesn't have the ring!!

Martti, here's the link to EOS adapter to Micro 4/3:

I'm not concerned about iris ring for this because I have rebel xt and I can mount the lens on it to change aperture and I also have another EOS lense(canon 70-200mm usm IS f/4.0)which I can use with the adapter.

ComanderSpike: Please do post the link, if I can get this lens on indian ebay site for 90 pounds, I will go for it for it's aperture. EF is just tempting me because it's available easily.

It's really difficult to hunt for these lenses in India.

This Nikon lens is also available: [FONT=Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D

What do you think about this lens? It also has a aperture ring.

Thanks.

I really like my Nikon 50mm f/1.4. My friend has I believe two of the f/1.8 (AF for still camera, AI for HVX) and they put out a pretty darn good image.

Hmm, can't find it now. Even search completed listings on the India eBay but it has vanished. The guy had 3 F1.2 lenses, two in poor condition but one nice one.

I really do recommend importing some FD lenses rather than buying EF lenses, and save yourself a bundle of money and have the convenience of the aperture ring. Beats carrying around two cameras with you, one to set the aperture. The EF lenses you have mentioned are not really that hot - the F4 zoom 70-200mm is a bit pointless, because the kit lens goes to 140mm and is stabilised. At 200mm with no image stabilisation, all I can say is 'good luck!' - even on a tripod every little vibration or gust of wind will move the image. F4 is quite slow and F1.8 isn't very exciting considering the EFS F1.8 costs a lot more than the FD equivalent and has the hassle of the electronic aperture. Don't go there! I beg you!

People buy these older Canon & Nikon lenses because they offer something special over and above the kit lens. Try not to replicate what the kit lens does. Go for something special like a very fast Canon or Nikon lens or a Leica / Zeiss with incredible sharpness and feel.

Canon FD 35 f2 chrome nose = $105.00 w/ shipping eBay

all excellent condition = $276.00 total.

look on my face when I found out NONE of these lenses will work on Canon 7D...

"priceless"

But they all work with the GH1 ironically ;)

yes they do... that's why I went with the 'shocked' smiley and not the 'crying' one. I thought I was playing it safe by going with the Canon FDs since I figured I might eventually get the (then) rumored 7D.... didn't do enough homework on FDs with EOS bodies.

They won't even work full manual with an adapter? I need to do some homework lol.

That's a fail.

Wouldn't they just not meter? you're using live view to take video they don't need to meter.

What I've found out is they do have adapters but they put a glass element between sensor and lens and the quality is supposed to be crap... plus stop loss.

Wow that's terrible.

I didn't realize the GH1 was so unique...

I have a friend who uses nikon's on his 5D mk II and they look great.....you can get a ring from EOS (EF?) to F-Mount but not to Canon's own FD? Pathetic.
