Which gimbal?

Varavon Birdy. Hands down. You may not have heard of it because Varavon marketing sucks, but I promise you within the next few months if you get any other gimbal you might question your choice. Varavon has only barely started to ship to the states, and there's only a 1 or 2 users state-side right now, but... the gimbal is the real deal. It does not use off the shelf components like the ALEXmos controller that DJI Ronin uses or any number other gimbals use. This is a ground up design that easily outclasses the Movi M5 in almost every way.

It's extremely compact, it folds up in a small backpack, it carries batteries and accessories really well, the quality of the motors are... pretty darn amazing. It's goddamn smooth. As far as I'm concerned, right now there's only 2 gimbals that will potentially give you a near flawless result. The Movi M5/M10 and the Varavon Birdy which only does up to about BMCC / FS700 weight. Almost no one knows about this gimbal, which is hilarious considering how insanely well made it is.

Oh, and did I mention it can use an Android phone / tablet to give you pan / tilt control? It's a free app that works over bluetooth to control your gimbal... yeah, you read that right. You don't have to buy an extra controller or any other gear... you can FREAKIN CONTROL THE GIMBAL OVER AN APP.

Whatever you do, at least check it out before you make your decision. At 2500, you can't possibly ignore this as a possible gimbal solution for cameras under 4lb

eee.. is this varavon promo? I seriously doubt that the FS700 will fit with the birdy. My FS 700 has 2,5kg with battery and standard lens, that hits max load almost. It's for a GH3/4, A7s and maybe 5DM3 but not for the FS700.

LOL ... ... Varavon Birdycam not strong enough even for Blackmagic Production Camera 4K !!! I buy it.... and send it back ... even gimbal from e-bay hold my camera better.. now I've got Ronin.. and it's work good! So far only Ronin give me an option to connect camera to Ronin battery!!! Users of BMCC and BMPC4k should know - how big problem for us is a very limited time this cameras able to work without external power!!!

DJI Ronin is the closest at being perfect for me (once XL bars are released to fit the FS700), the easy to use adjustments are very well done, esp the cam-like-fine-tuning for the Pan axis... but there is a little tiny hobby 'joke' un-protected cable connection w/ 6x 24ga wires on the bottom of the IMU (camera platform) that is bound to break, and isn't a user replaceable part. So til this gets upgraded, I will be waiting eagerly with money-in-hand for 'my' perfect gimbal!

I have been 'messing' around with the most recent versions of the Alexmos boards (32-bit, and various from AerialPixels) on a custom built gimbal for the past ~8months and have come to a few conclusions:
- no little 'RC/hobby connections' are allowed AT ALL, they all break so easily, and we all know set-life isn't always the easiest on gear. (Esp as I do lots of sports location work)
- battery life seems to be about the same for all gimbals, relying they are balanced properly (90% of people don't know how to balance properly, even though they think they do, so make sure you actually learn!) Just make sure you can buy extra batteries with the gimbal *cough cough DJI cough cough*
- Weight: not a huge game changer for me, yes, Ronin w/ FS700 + 7Q is heavy, but I would trade that off for ruggedness ANY DAY. Also, the weight will keep you from over-using it on every single shot! ;)

Hello, i worked with DJI Ronin, it's too heavy but run well, the movi M5 (with fs100 and SEL 10-18mm) who run very well and really lighter but you can't add more weight, now i bought Hélix 4 axis from letus and everything are possible.
For my FS100 it's very very well. i can add speedbooster and tamron 24-70 VC or sony sel 18-200 no problem ! Next step is to mount sony FS7...
