Which GH2 hacks are best?

Hello friends,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me, in layman's terms, what the best hacks are and why? I got Driftwood, but there are so many that I'm confused about what (else) to get.

Thanks.

It is a matter of preference and what you are looking for. If you have the time try them all, at least the ones that seem interesting. Driftwood is what I use currently as well.

Is there anybody out there?

This is one of the most often asked questions out there, and has so many subjective answers that most folks are just tired of discussing it. There might be a more lively discussion on the subject over at personal-view.com

What is all this hack s*%t? There's so many of them. What are the main reasons for getting hacks?

As for why you would want one, read the post and see comparison screengrabs here:

cjewelz - presuming you do things like eat and what-not, you'll never be able to try them all. Just go a couple posts down from this one to one about FlowMotion v2.02. Give it a whirl. Do some reading in the late night hours over on personal-view.com. Download some stuff off vimeo if you prefer judging based on other people's work rather than your own for some reason.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the womens...

Oh, wait, wrong question. Sorry.

I use FlowMotion 2.02 and Quantum X v4. No idea which one is "best," though.

It depends on what kind of footage you shoot.
For me, i like Sedna AQ1 and latest Quantum v9b.
I'll have to look at Flowmotion. Here's how Sedna looks.

SANITY 5 has my highest recommendation - of course it does, I developed it. :)But, seriously, it has something none of the other hacks have - quality AND effieciency. Other hacks will give you quality, but at the expense of astronomically high bitrates. SANITY 5 will give you absolutely top quality at bitrates not more than twice stock. And it will do it in all shooting modes (not just 24P) and with 100% reliability. Ordinary Class 10 SD cards work just fine.

Sanity 5 is the fifth zip file at the far right hand side.

Hi everyone. I've had a GH1 and just got a GH2. I have some questions as far as all of these settings go.

I'm really liking what I've seen from people using the Orion v4b patch. I think that a lot of it looks like big screen / feature film quality with is amazing!

Does anyone know if this patch retains all normal camera functionality.. e.g. playback in all modes, spanning, ect...? If not, does anyone know what is the highest quality patch that does? What patch would also give you the best quality at reasonable bit rates, would it be Sanity 5?

Basically, I would like to know what patch is going to retain all normal camera features while enhancing them as much as possible. If the Orion patch does this, that's perfect. What is the difference between the Orion v4b and v4d patches?

I'm currently running a SanDisk 16gb 95 MB/s card which I just purchased with the GH2. I have the 14-140 and 20mm lenses. I will mainly be doing music videos, with some possible low light shots for nightclubs.

Also, when hacking my GH1 I would just make sure "prevent version compare" was checked when loading a new patch, and I wouldn't rename the firmware filename, I would just save it as the original firmware filename. When loading a new patch / firmware in the GH2 do we still need to rename the file each time as a higher number for it to take effect, or can we just overwrite the original?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm... really having a tough time deciding which patch I want to use. Orion V4b is really good, but the file sizes are just too big. Aquamotion v2... Flow Motion v2... can't decide which one I like better. Flow Motion does not allow for in camera playback of MJPEG though. Then there's Sanity v5... why are there so many hacks? Wow, this is really frustrating! I want to pick just one to use, but can't decide. Thoughts anyone?

I use and love Sedna at the moment. I mostly shoot in 24L because I simply don't need huge files, but I find the quality differences between 24L and 24H to mostly be minimal to my eyes. In addition, it easily spans on my normal Class 10 SD cards (I've shot upwards of 40 minutes in a continuous take on it). However, it's best for 1080p24, not sure about the other shooting modes.

I find flowmotion to be the best for my needs, it's versatile, solid, and makes 60p footage so much better than what the stock can produces. The driftwood patches are really good as welll. like everyone else, try them all see what works best for your eyes.
