Which format handles the 17 Mbit/s flaw better? 720p oder 1080i

Hi,
I did a little testing but I´m not quite sure in which format I should shoot, when I need fluid video movement.
Does someone have experience which format is handled better by the codec? 1080i or 720p?

My bets on 720p, your working with more "real" frames per sec. 1080i is interlaced, so your basically capturing only half frames at 50/60i.
People are using 720p in all their slow motion projects for a reason.
