which DVX to choose

So this ad goes up on craigslist for 2 DVX100a's for $900 each. Both are said to be working fine. I get on the phone and am headed an hour away to go pick up one or both.

I get there and start playing with them (I had to bring my own battery as they don't have a charger...sketch). It is being sold by this 50 year old lady who said her "Friend used them to shoot a few movies."

First DVX i turn on works fine for about a minute then gives me "AUTO OFF LOADING LOCK" in red text flashing on the screen, the background turns blue.

The second DVX i turn on works fine but will not focus. The focus ring doesn't feel sturdy.

So i took the focus ring off of both DVX's and noticed the "teeth" of the not working one were broken. Also the ribbon connecting something in the front seems looser than the other camera's.

I put the one with the working "teeth" on the dvx without the autolock problem but (i think due to the ribbon being loose) it will no longer turn on.

So my question is, can the "AUTO OFF LOADING LOCK" problem be fixed for a reasonable price, in which case i'd put the working focus ring on that camera and have it fixed
OR
can the loose ribbon (assuming thats the problem) that is causing the DVX to no longer turn on be fixed for a reasonable price and i would put the working focus ring on that camera.

It's just for $900 (and i think i could talk her into less since they're breaking down) i'd love to get a DVX haha.

I don't want to buy it though and spend like $1000 on repairs...

help!

As far as I can tell from the forums and Panasonic, its a kind of pricey fix. I'd put the working focus ring on the good camera and call it good.

yes that's what i tried to do...but when i took the broken focus ring off there was a ribbon sticking out that seemed a bit loose...and i put the working focus ring on and the camera would no longer turn on.

Would that be an easy fix if i just got that ribbon fixed ?

One of them has a broken focus assembly...anyone know how much that might be? don't wana get ripped off...

and one has the autolock problem, the guy said the board is physically locked up and he can prob fix it...

Well the one with the autolock problem got fixed by my friend at Video Electronics repair shop and it cost me only $350! I had heard people spent up to $900 on this issue and I had other work done too. So if anyone has this problem let me know, I can get you a good deal.

I got a DVX100 lens assembly on ebay for $20.50 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...em=110203829891&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI)

It says it works fine but the manual focus ring is detached.

So hopefully with that put in and a little more work the other DVX will be up and running...

If you want info on that shop email me at jeffzim@gmail.com or talk to me on here. email is probably faster though.

well now i'm bummed.

i got the dvx back today and it worked fine when i toyed with it. I went filming and put a tape in, and got the same "auto off loading lock" error.

guess i gota send it back :/

I once knocked off my lens assembly and the tore the ribbon that attaches the lens and focus ring. i paid 400 from speccomm, than included fast shipping. i sent it on a monday and got back on friday just in time for a shoot on saturday.
