I dont want to pay for the original Canon battery which costs more than 40€.

Can I use a cheaper battery, which ones are safe and long lasting?

Experiences, recommendations?

You may have luck finding a "cheap" battery but from my prospective the original Canon battery is 3 fold cheaper then any other original camera battery I have ever owned. It may be more expensive then generic batteries but it has 3 good qualities. It is safe, long lasting and tens of thousands of users have good experiences with it. I own 3 and have never needed to use the first one again after draining the lot the first time around in a day. I regularly shoot 8-10 hours and it lasts really well. It should be noted I use vintage manual lenses and they tend to help with battery life because they do not use power like the Canon glass.

I use two optekas and I'm really happy with them: they were cheap, they seem to last just as long as the original ones, and they work with the canon charger
