Hi,

i have 4000 USD and would like to buy a cam for shoot music videos and short films.

Please tell me your opinion and exactly model type.

Thank you.

My old cam is a: Sony HDR-XR500 + 35mm Letus Mini Adapter

This Budget is only for a cam.

With the HPX170 how could i get DOF Effect? Do i need a 35mm Adapter or only a lens?

I would look into the DSLRs for that money. I love the HPX17 with the lens kits, but you would have a hard time getting into something like that with $4,000.

You could get a Canon 7D, some prime lenses, a follow focus and shoulder mount rig.

Check out Redrockmicro.com and cinevate.com. Of course there are others as well.

HPX170 is excellent.

If DOF is so important that you would sacrifice many other things in order to get it, get a 7D and some lenses. It will have 35mm DOF and also higher resolution.

But, you would sacrifice:

-motion quality and-color quality after post due to intraframe format vs heavily compressed GOP format
-global shutter vs rolling shutter, split frames, wobble, leaning verticals
-DSLR line skipping alias
-having a full camcorder vs a DSLR of relatively limited usability, monitoring, recording times, audio options, heating issues, etc.

If you want to keep all the qualities HPX170 has and also get 35mm DOF, you need to spend about $250,000. You will also get true 1080p that way. If you would settle for 2/3" DOF and true 1080p, $40,000 will do the job. If you only need 2/3" DOF and HPX170 resolution is fine, you can do that at about $20,000.
