Which camera is capable of achieving this look?

From the moire I'd say the 7D will be fine for it. As for the lens. The DoF isn't very shallow (good thing) so a zoom stopped down a bit should cover you well. Almost all lenses are great when stopped down a bit so this could be shot with a stock, cheap Canon zoom that came with the 7D.

The only real moire problem that really jumps out at you is his suit and this would have shown up on the screen right away. Stuck in the desert with one suit, what are you suppose to do!

I Have no idea how the Director/Editor let that go out to the world. The Moire on that suit is Insane. With that said this is a scene inspired by the Movie Casino, the cars, dessert and wardrobe play a big factor in creating the mood and atmosphere for this project. Any proper Dp would have known that suit would cause those problems. Rick Ross needs to stop being cheap and be more in tune with what his directors are using. More than sure a different suit worn would have fix all these problems.

Now to the op, and current Canon Hdslr can achieve that look. With such a bright sun you could have easily used a kit lens and achieve great results.

Finally if this video is your motivation/inspiration you need to set the bar a little higher as this project was poorly done imo

Wow, that 30 seconds of "commercial" in front of the video was something. Do all rap videos have that kind of... er, "intro?"

I won't comment on what has already been suggested as an Canon DSLR would work. The 28-135 kit lens is great, and anyone worth their salt can get a pretty image with one. Things I would do to make your project better then this? Have more then 60 seconds of actual content for one, use fill light (bounce boards) that way you have a pretty good chance of holding your sky instead of just letting it go like they did, and while your at it you can actually "light" the talent like a good DP would. The biggest issue I think is framing and movement within the shots. The composition on almost everyone of these shots was pretty so-so, yeah they managed to get the guy's head in frame but now all we see is a floating face that gets a hair and chin cut, and has its ears lopped off as it moves side-to-side.

This is a pretty good example of how important location is though. If they were on a random street corner with no lighting and a 7D I would place a guess you would not have posed this question.

Good filming!

You are reading my mind. I was blown by the moire myself. Couldn't get pass it. But the truth is sadly audiences don't even give a sh_t. The more they see it the less they notice and it's a real shame. I love my AF100. He should cut his director and DP a break and deliver an AF100 or a Sony F3 to them for Christmas. I do like Rick and Wale'. It's a shame it could have been a really good look. Just too distracting. If you can afford them I would suggest a Zeiss ZF lens kit. Great in low light situations and have a very sharp and beautiful image. Also the build is top shelf as far as still camera lenses go. I believe a Canon 5D would have been a great choice for this shoot. The wider sensor could have given this promo video a wider breath taking view of the desert.

You can totally get this look from a 7D. If I were you I would go on youtube, or vimeo and search canon 7D videos and see what so many people have been achieving with this camera. You will see everything from horrible work to exceptional work using this camera. At the end of the day it always comes down to the shooter.

Lol. Im not one to slander someones name, But if you look at most of their videos they are all like this. Seems like a 50mm lens being used for everything. In my opinion some wide shots and other focal lengths could have truly made this video shine.

Rule of thumb is NEVER let your talent wear red, stripes or extreme white in heavy lights. This is a practice I always use.....This would have solved the Suit Issue. Also going to that much effort for Location, I always have Fisheye, 20mm, 50mm, 100mm and a fast 18-200mm zoom lense. You must change up the shots. I agree that they seemed to get lazy and only used a 50mm for the entire shoot. Could have been an awesome video had they inserted some creative shots.
