GH2 Which auto mode is better for video -- AFS or AFC?

Hi DVXusers,

The GH2 has 3 focus modes; manual focus (M) and 2x auto focus modes; AFC and AFS.

The language in the manual says: AFS means "the focus is set automatically when the shutter button is pressed halfway. Focus will be fixed while it is pressed halfway."

The manual also says this for AFC: "This mode allows you to compose a picture more easily by continuously focussing on the subject while the shutter button is pressed halfway. When taking pictures of a moving subject, the camera predicts the movement of the subject and focusses on it. (Motion prediction).

Does this mean AFC is more suitable for recording movies, while AFS is more suitable for still recording?

I like to use AFS with the lumix lenses I have. I can get pinpoint focus very quickly. The problem with AFC is the focus "hunting" during a shot. I've tried racking focus with the touchscreen, but it always has a little jitter when the focal plane is changed.

I second AFS with the Lumix lenses. Point, focus, shoot. The hunting is really REALLY annoying and pretty much don't exist for me anymore because I found it to happen at the weirdest of times and especially at times where I couldn't figure out why the world it would suddenly hunt for focus.

What about a shot where someone is walking toward camera? What's the best way to get focus to follow them with the face track?

Erik,

I've had good luck with AFS. AFC doesn't work at all with some lenses, specifically the Lumix 20mm that I know of. But "Face Tracking" and AFS works as long as the camera thinks it sees a face, even with the 20mm.

I haven't played much with Face Tracking....it did leave me with that cool sci-fi feeling seeing it at work

Need help.
I shot a video last night using AFS. I like this style so the camera doesn't continually hunt and I can manually overide if needed.
Here's my problem. When I had to switch shots, I have to halfway press down the shutter button to get the camera to refocus.
On one occasion, I accidentally pressed to far and it stopped the camera from recording. Is there a way to turn this function off so that I can only record start/stop with
the record button on the back of the camera not also with the shutter button?
