which adapter to use tamron 28-75 (canon fit) on GH1?

Hi all,

simple question and hopefully a simple answer!
I have bought a tamron 28-75 canon fit lens, do I just look for a 'canon to m43' adapter? I've read something about an EF adapter?

While I'm at it does anyone know what adapter I'd need for a canon fit sigma 10-22 and a canon 85mm f1.8?

Hopefully its the same adapter... fingers crossed

canon fit = many, as my be as one of mainly used canon-fd and canon-ef or S, R, FL ... so not possible to say which you are have without information from you ...
take a look on mounts - are that similar or different - and then you will knew how many adapters you will need ...

You'll want a Canon EF->m43 adapter, not the FD one. It should fit all three of your lenses unless your 85/1.8 is an old manual focus lens.

FANTASTIC! thanks Kin, just what I wanted to hear. I'll be getting the AF 85mm too so one adapter to rule them all!

would this be the right one?

it says "There is no ROM connection on the ring so diaphragm control of the lens is set manually" what does this mean?
Is there such a thing as a good and a bad adapter? If so for the price I'd imagine this is bad?

I have just read this.... is it true and will it also apply to the AF101?

"Canon EF and EF-S lenses are not always a great pairing when adapted to m43 (or any other system) because aperture control for these lenses is purely electronic. There will be no way for you to control the aperture of your EF lenses, and you will be shooting them completely wide open"

I've read on Philip Blooms site that there is talk of an aperture controllable eos EF mount being produced... Hopefully this will be along soon...

... it's a shame that nobody has come up yet with a EF->4/3 adapter that can control at least iris... probably it's rocket science to reverse engineer what those pins do on canon lenses.... so yes, at the moment if you have ef lenses you want to use on your gh1 you are in deep s..t Actually i wonder if focus would work too, with all this drive by wire going on in auto lenses...

That looks pretty much like the same one I have. You won't have aperture control, but for the most part, those lenses are fine wide open. I also have alot of old MF glass if I need aperture control, or I'd simply use the kit 14-140.

It is worth noting that with Canon EF lenses you can lock in a different aperture other than wide open if you have a Canon DSLR to hand. You mount the EF lens on to the Canon DSLR body and set the aperture you want via the camera. Then you press down the stop down preview button - keeping it pressed down while you remove the lens. It is a bit clumsy, but should allow you to use it on a dumb adapter, and yet give you some other aperture options. Having said this I have never tried it on a m4/3 adaptor but know about it from reversing the lens. I am assuming it will still work like this on a dumb Canon EF to m4/3 adapter.

thanks guys. With primes it wont be an issue as the reason I'll use a prime is for the aperture, but I'm just thinking about filming a wedding ceremony from the back of the church and trying to keep the priest AND the couple in focus could be tough. If all else fails I'll have a canon body as a third/spare cam so I suppose with enough careful planning I could lock aperture to 5.6 or something beforehand if this works.

It generally seems that every thing involved in shooting with DSLR lenses involves more work and skill, however I suppose thats the price you pay to get what is in my opinion a much nicer looking product. I have considered getting something like a Sony Z5 that shoots 25p and will have the depth of field when required but I'm unsure of how combining the narrow and wide DOF shots would look.

Any thoughts on the price of the birger mount? Do you think it'll be crazy money?

Manual focus 135/2.8's and 70-200/3.5 zooms are _stinking_ cheap by comparison, especially something in a Minolta MC/MD or Canon FD mount and you'll have full aperture control.

thats a very good point. Just seen you can pick up a 135 2.8 minolta for £50 if I read right.... that has to be worth it
