I totally Agree!!! After finding out a little background I'm way more inclined to go and give it a second, third, fourth watch. I also enjoy them more.
 
I think it makes a difference, but ultimately your audience won't know or care about the hows and whys...they just want to see a good movie...

As a member of that audience, and since this thread has come full circle... I think we're entitled to use the phrase "sub-par" or if somebody is so inclined, "sucked".

This thread has come full circle with the point made that we should care totally about the person's level of experience and available resources... to fully ACKNOWLEDGING that situation and encouraging further viewing with that in mind... to the idea that none of that should matter anyway?!:grin:

So I'll sort of rephrase/paraphrase my earlier statements to the crowd... grow or die... take the criticism well and learn from it... whether that criticism is technical or as simple as "a time waster"... either find some lights, an external mic, a better story, better actors, or whatever else you need... to avoid adjectives such as "suck".:thumbsup:

I think we can all chalk this thing up to a learning experience and we'll all do better next time.

It would be fine for people to "take the criticism well" if there was you know actual criticism to be had...sorry but "subpar" and "sucked" really don't cut it, IMHO. Which has been my whole point from the beginning.

I hardly consider this contest to be on par with going to the movies and spending 10 dollars to see a finished product. That is the difference in audience expectations, again what I said from the beginning.

Its fine to disagree, which we do, but I really, really resent anyone who thinks "like dude, your film sucked" counts as anything more than being too lazy to say something intelligent and useful.

I'm just busy again.......and I've seen and voted on all of them.....working through comments slowly.

Life is just more than zombie films my fellow DVXers
 
I guess that, on a scale from 1 (terrible) to 5 (excellent), with 2 being "really not good", 3 "average" and 4 "good", anything that's below 3 is "subpar".

I watched 78 films (couldn't open the 79th, Letztkes) and voted on them all, and I do share the opinion that a very significant number of them (probably over 50 percent) were... well, say "less than average". As to why, some reasons are subjective, others objective ; some are related to the plot (films with an ending that makes no sense, intrinsic credibility, SoD--suspension of disbelief :happy:) ; some concern poor acting (and possibly inexperienced directing) ; yet others resort to the technical domain : quality of the lighting/cinematography/camera moves, edit blunders, etc.

As a member of the DVX community, I think it's great that so many movies were made. I myself learned a lot just from watching them, and I can imagine how much those who actually made them did learn... not to mention the fun factor ! And it's hard sometimes to pass rigorous judgement on a film made by someone you've come to appreciate "virtually" on these boards, but being "too kind" when the time comes to vote would be very unfair vis-à-vis those who did make great zombie movies and deserve praise and reward... four, maybe five films fell into that category, in my opinion.

Can't wait to see the results !

Can we publicly announce our own "top three" ? :laugh:
