Where to rent a 7D in Chicago?

Try Fletcher or Calumet. If no luck, give me a buzz, I have a 7D that I'd rent, but I'm about 5 hours away from Chicago which might make me not a good option for you.

I have a 7D w/complete kit (mattebox, lenses, viewing monitor, CF cards, batteries (the works)) here is a potential place other than myself willing to rent the 7D. Pricey though, but an option none-the less.

I'm not to sure if they'll even ship to Chicago, you might have to be there in person, which then eliminates this option.

Daily of $450

This one is cheaper, and actually will ship it to you, but doesn't come with anything. Everything must be rented separately so I'm not to sure, but it might be WAY more expensive when lenses and such are added.

Like I said other than those, there really isn't to many options out there for you. But look around, and see what you get, let us know how it works out for you.

If budget allows it, why not just buy a body, rent the lens(es) you need, and sell it when you're finished? Even if you "lose" $200 on the deal, you're still saving over what you'd have paid to rent the camera.

Just a thought.

I cant remember who sang this rap song but it seems very appropriate.

"If you see it, want it, BUY IT, OWN it. Drop it, Lacquor it, paint it, chrome it"

I agree if you must buy and sell, prolly easier, and then you might as well keep for a while and do a few projects.

And a good thought it is Stephen and I would but, of course, the budget does not allow for this.

No worries though. Just putting out feelers to see who is out there. Thanks everyone.

Jimmy, the problem with this is that they offer the best of everything. All of the lenses they offer are "L" series glass, with 6x Cards, many batteries etc etc.

I would not base your rental price off of theres because they offer far more than you (not saying that you don't have a nice kit, just being honest about what they offer and what you offer).

My intention of providing you that link was never to propose it to you as my rental rate. On the contrary it was to provided you with feasible options, that would get you a Cam for shoot, at the best rate possible. Thats why I posted the link.

As I stated I'm not sure if they mail out there rental, but I did provide you with someone who does, check back directly underneath that link.

And i will have o say with an surety, their lenses are FAR SUPERIOR to my own, no question about that. But it is arguable if the ARRI follow focus is better than the REDROCK, which is what I have. Also The Mattebox, I would also argue that as well. The particular model i have is a completely modular design capable of fitting 3 filters. They also don't provide you with lens gears for that follow focus either, which means extra costs.

I never bought my equipment with the idea of renting it out. I bought it so I had the ability, at the drop of a dime to go out and shoot, under any circumstances.

Your choices are of course your own, which is great because you, as the customer, have the ability to see what is available for you to rent, and at what the going rates for those rentals will be.

I wouldn't base your budgeting around what you could rent, at what price you could get, if you were somewhere you aren't. I'd say look at this as what "I can get", where "I am", for "this price", and go from there.

But ultimately the choice is yours.

Understood.

Redrock makes good products for sure, but there is no way they are as good as ARRI. That's like saying trying to say that a hackintosh is as good as a mac w/the same specs. It isn't and it never will be. lol.

Extra costs it may have, but you do not have filters...

I'm not getting in the middle of this debate except to say that I've been known to play with hackintosh's and it is faster, cost half as much and runs all of the Pro Applications. The only thing I don't get is that personalized Apple support :D

To be fair, I don't use it in production, I just wanted to see if I could get Color to correct 2K images in realtime. Apple is way behind the curve on graphic accelerators, and yes you can. The whole point of a hackintosh is that you don't have to use all the same specs as the Mac Pro. I think your statement "It isn't and it never will be" is more about brand loyalty than reality.

Neither will they with their MatteBox either. AbleCine, just in case you haven't read their rental agreement, is a lot of red tape regarding renting their gear, which it indeed should be, considering they are loaning out arguably $6K+ worth of gear.

You have to have insurance before you can rent their gear, as stated on their website. You also have to pay for both the rental fees, as well as a deposit before you get the gear, and they will mail you back a check, once the gear is returned, in working order. not that big of a deal, but incase your budget doesn't allow for that extra $$ to be used in another way other than being tied up, your set.

You will have to rent filters with my kit, which aren't expensive at all, and widely available. Also L lenses are cheap, and widely available for rent around town. I have priced a kit (Wide, Portrait, and telephoto) for a weekend rental for no more than $150. I believe that was Helix camera, but I'd have to go back to my list and make sure.

So take your time Mossi, which i'm sure you're already doing, and choose the best fit for you.

and I'm not EVEN going to get started in the Hackintiosh thing, considering that is a HUGE thread derailment. but I will say, as someone who has had both a Hackpro, and a Nahalem Mac Pro, that "REAL IS BETTER" either way you slice it.
