Where to buy XL2 for Australia

Fantastic website, great to find something like this before buying an XL2.

Just a quick query to any Australians out there that have found a good price for the XL2. I've found a few places on ebay that are selling the XL2 for around $5000-$6000AUS, has anyone had any experience buying from these guys? Would you recommend it? Don't know how much I trust these guys, their previous feedback looks OK, but still a big risk.

After reading through posts from this website there has been mixed feedback on the online stores expandore.com, globalmediapro.com, b&hphoto.com and others. Just after general feedback and experience any Australians have had with these places.

Gday Mida...late response, hope this is helpful

My newbie filmmaking buddy was in the same situation as you not so long ago, and went with entique systems.

http://www.entique.com.au/products.aspx?category=digital camcorder&manufacturer=Canon

Of course there is a risk - you just have to decide if you can live with it. Is a $600 saving worth the stress? (prodigitalaustralia was our other consideration and we would have had no stress buying from them). For us it was. The warranty with Entique was ok and we had no problems with delivery. 3 months later and all is good.

All the best,

Steve

hi Mida, just one thing u NEED to be aware of in regards to the 'international' warranty that are provided by these companies... I speak with experience with the DVX100A.

While global media etc offer international warrnty with it - I spoke to rexel (I bought my camera local and had a dead pixel upon reception) when i had it fixed and asked them about the international warranty and they said they wouldn't fix it, EVEN thought it would be paid for. Pretty much said if it was grey market it would not be fixed by them.

Now obviously canon is a different item, so i am not sure about their warranty, but you might want to think about that.

it is a risk, and i am glad I didn't take it. a pixel is small but damn annoying once u notice it is 'dead'...

GL with your endeavours...

I bought mine from globalmediapro when the XL2 first came out. Was very happy with price and service. You also have to pay the courier the GST and customs duty when bringing it into the country, but it was still a bargain.

Apparently there is a place in Perth that is selling it even cheaper! Don't know who they are though.

Don’t buy an xl2, wait for the hvx200, it will be in similar price range and much better (well not $5000-$6000AUS, but the old retail price of the XL2 $8000-$9000)....

You could consider renting it from www.lemac.com.au or http://www.audiosound.com.au, they are Sydney based, don’t know about Melbourne...

If you are keen on getting it though..... that’s weird the place that I saw it at doesn’t sell it anymore? www.videoguys.com.au looks like they are going for sony HDV now....

If you are getting it from ebay or overseas, watch out for warranty, tax, duty, postage and all that (as people have previously said, just thought I would back them up because it could cause you a lot of trouble)....

Don’t ring canon Australia, they have no idea, I waited for hours on hold and asked them where i could buy it and they were most unhelpful. So i ended up getting the dvx100a. And if i need to use the xl2 for its telephoto lens i will rent it.
