Where the Wild Things Are

It's like a Sigur Ros video. Looks very cool. Don't see the parents taking the kiddies though. Has cult classic written all over it.

Looks cool. Big fan of Spike Jonze first two films and many of his music videos so I look forward to it.

you know the music by Arcade Fire is great. makes the trailer awesome- even as a stand alone piece. I bought the song immediately - found out it wasn't exactly the same because it was they re-recorded for the trailer - anyway, the indie-feel of the film is great -great cinemotography. i just hope it's just as good of a film too.

Arcade fire is one of the best canadian bands. I agree that the music in the trailer is what really makes the trailer.

my favorite song is Neighbourhood (tunnels)

Yeah, Spike Jonze directed - apparently there was some controversy over the first cut being too dark and scary for kids, not sure exactly what they've changed, if anything.

In a Rolling Stone article with Spike Jonze he stated that the studio did not like his cut and tried to recut the film to be more child friendly. After a year long arguement they finally gave in to Spike and let him cut it how he wanted to. Not sure why you would hire someone like Spike Jonze, or a Michael Gundry, or Tim Burton, directors that tend to be visionaries, and not let them do their thing. Based on the article, in the end it looks like Spike got his way.

He also mentioned that Maurice Sendak was pleased with the film. I think the film is more of an inspired by the book as opposed to an actual retelling of the story. They changed the kids age to be older and they focus more on his home life and how it mirrors the fantasy world. More grown-up themes mixed with the kids stuff.

Looks good.

Missed your post when you first made it.

It’s 02:40, and I just finished reading an early draft (dated Oct 05) of the script…

Having read What is the What, I never had any doubt about Eggers’ ability to remind me how the world – any world – might appear from a young boy’s perspective…

However, my already lofty expectations have been surpassed by the movie I just saw projected in my mind’s eye…

Beautiful, heartbreaking, hilarious…

I can’t wait to see / hear the film, and to read Eggers’ tie-in novel.

Didn't care for the expanded plot, but the characters all had souls and were totally believable.

How on Earth did this get green lit? What age exactly is it aimed at?

James Gandoldini and the music was great but, well, just not sure if there's a movie here.

Lots of people seemed to be anticipating the film and then zilch, nada, zip. So what are your thoughts on it?

Not having read all four pages of comments in this thread, some of this has probably already been said.

If you loved the book as a kid, then I have a feeling you'd be less inclined to like this movie. If you wanted just that pure retelling of the book then it would have been a five minute long animated short. This movie takes the spirit of that book, about a boy seeking refuge in fantasy and builds on it. I thought the movie was clever, well made, and thought provoking, though a little depressing at points. It's clearly not a little kids movie.
I never cared that much for the original book, but I thought this movie was outstanding.
