Where the Wild Things Are

Yeah, Spike Jonze directed - apparently there was some controversy over the first cut being too dark and scary for kids, not sure exactly what they've changed, if anything.

Yea it looks more adult to me. Looks great though, very mysterious and fantasy...which is the kind of book it is. I look forward to seeing it.

There are varying - and unsubstantiated - reports that the film was either completely recut and/or complete RESHOT.

Anybody has any word on this?

Looks different than the average film, and I'm interested. I don't remember the book at all. It was so long ago when I read it, or maybe it was read to me? I'm sure this was not the easiest thing to adapt either, but they've got a nice look and style for the film.

I read on Comingsoon.net that They Re-cut it because Spike needed more money to get everything right. The studio seemed to really want his vision for this. I found that odd.

Either way, I loved the book and the movie looks fantastic.

there was something with the creatures he changed re cut and some reshoots. the creatures look good i remember reading how it was mixture of real and cgi for them ... they look good also the arcade fire song is awesome and i like how they cut the trailer.

That's the way it SHOULD be...
glad to see someone actually learned a lesson from Jurassic Park, and not from some of the CG overkill messes that followed.

I'm excited about this. As a kid those monsters scared me though. But the film looks great. There's some test footage online somewhere. Just wonder if the rumors are true.

But nonetheless, my gf is most excited about this. She's studying to be an early childhood educator, and she used to LOVE this book as a kid. So I have a feeling I'll be seeing it right when it gets out to theaters.

I'm excited about this. I got to meet Maurice Sendak when he came to San Francisco to look at the Wild Things interactive installation we'd done at Sony Metreon.

He was very in awe of what we'd done and played a big role in making sure the designs and interactivity were true to the book. His (and my!) favorite thing was Max's bedroom, which transformed live into the jungle through scrims and lighting changes. I remember thinking about how I was standing next to Mr. Sendak, who wrote my favorite childhood book, and that he was just as excited as we were. He really got off on the relatively simple effect because it worked well.

My bet is that he would've played a large, central role in the art direction if it was possible and it should show in the movie.

Anyway, they've removed that attraction now, but it was great to meet him - a real icon from my childhood. He even signed my hard-hat!

Traileraddict.com has it for those who can't see QT.

Looks emotionally provacative for a movie based on a children's book.

The book only has ten sentences in it, so it will be interesting to see how they fill in the gaps.

Thankfully it's in good hands.
