How do we get Panasonic to make a drive for P2 for Windows VISTA

The Mac is popular for many reasons, FCP being one of them.

I think people like the idea of having a single source for their hardware and software, especially when they don't have to make any compromises by doing that.

Thought I'd be fair and wait until the thead reached 3 pages before I responded:

Just don't use Vista. Wipe the notebook and install Windows 2000, where you can work with your HVX without the hassles of DRM and Product Activation.

On a more directly helpful note: if you have a license for Windows 2000 or XP and actually want to use Vista (can't imagine why), you could always try installing the older OS within a virtual machine such as VMWare. Not too speedy for editing, but perfectly fine for offloading. Not sure if VMWare or other such virtual machines will properly work with the Cardbus slots or not. Guess I'll have to try it now...

Yeah i could load WINXP Pro but i cant just load an older version onto the computer. id have to while the HDD I beleave then load XP on..... Its just strange as the laptop knows the P2 card has been inserted but it wants P2 drivers installed even though they are already.... I could go back XP but this laptop came with vista and vista is a good OPS so far... i'll just wait for Panasonic to make the driver for the 8 in 1..... i just wish they would hurryyyyyyy UPPPPPPPPP!

I suppose vista is only new but if I was the CEO of a software/ hardware company I would make sure my customers would have all relevent updates within the week of a new major relase of an OS ( as long as there is no problems that is )

I guess its the age old question of choise but tell me..... Mac v Pc... when the edits done ready for dvd or film or what ever product your finnal video render is for is there a diffrence in quality that a mac or pc has over the other?????
It's not a Mac VS. PC issue; it's the number of HVX users on the Mac that are virtually unsupported by Panasonic. I remember Barry saying 95% of HVX users in his workshops are on The Mac. That means the remaining 5% use Windows and even fewer are on Vista. That's why I said Mac support is Panasonic's biggest problem right now, which is really an understatement to say the least.

What problem? The FCP has a slick P2 import and there are several other Mac apps for viewing/offloading, etc. Heck, there's even a FREE Mac offloader (HD Log demo).

JasonE, those are all non-Panasonic products. People have been clamoring for a simple P2 Viewer-like application for the Mac for a long time, as well as native Mac tools for formatting/diagnosing/updating P2 cards -- right now that needs to be done on a PC laptop with a PCMCIA/PCCard slot.

I agree since the users who own a HVX is 95% that is a big issue.

FF, try this link, it's about running XP within Vista. Let us know if it works.

Ive had a look at there site and looked around the web and done a few google searches into this but virtual PC is that.... it works on software however it wont use hardware like USB 8 and 1 and so on..... It was a good idea but doesnt look like its worth trying something others have failed at.

Just because Bill gates decided to updates his system every software company has to change there priority and provides driver to there new OS. I think this is like colleting extortion money. Lets create some work ? How? Lets change OS and that will pay every programer to create new driver.

This is a problem with all OS. I feel bad for manufaturer because they get blame for not fast enough.

I would not install Vista for another year before all the bugs and software support become available.

I really don't care who makes the software, in fact, personally I'd rather it be a software company. Hardware manufacturers like Panasonic and Sony et al are notorious for making great equipment and lousy software. FCP isn't free, why should other tools be free?

And for that matter, free is certainly a relative term. Instead of raising the cost of the camera to cover software included for "free", I'd rather have the choice of whom to buy it from and select by features, performance and need. Not include something I may not want or use that I'm inadvertantly paying for.

I wear the hat of software development supervisor along with many others , and let me tell you its a big concern of ours. But you havent dealt with MS, they are worse than customers when trying to get a logo on your box. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! Its crazy is all i can say. Going through two 3rd party companies , which is the official way to get certified from a phone conference with MS.

Here Here.

ADOBE is another one who does this every years almost. They add like 2 new plugins, change the screen color then ask for more pennies.... I bought adobe after effects 7 pro and found that half my old plugins from version 6.5 9 the one before 7 ) dont work!.... guess what now some of the plugin companys want more money for the version update.... some dont...

I seriously need vista compatibility now as well. I've purchased two computers for the HVX - one to edit with, and a notebook to dump data into. Both have vista. Get on it, Panasonic. It can't be that hard.

Nest time I see Hiro Matsushita I'll mention it to him. He lives about 10 minutes away from him and I run into him from time to time. Maybe that way we'll see some results.

I just bought a Toshiba G45 and I cannot get the PCMCIA P2 Drivers to work on it. I've disabled the built in card reader, I've used the driver linked in this thread and the most recent driver that says it is compatible with 32Bit Vista.

Everytime I put the P2 card in the PCMCIA slot it causes the computer to crash!

I did get the usb driver installed with not problem but that does not help when I am filming and need to offload cards on the fly.

I need help, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Kent
