matty and I just heard the news from tim, all i can say is i'm so very sorry... what happened is the lamest of the lame. mean people suck.
 
OK talked to Mark J and he requested that I put an end to the speculation as to what horrors may have occurred.

His laptop was stolen out of his bag while he was taking care of some bathroom business.

He's 90% sure everything is backed up.

Fingers crossed.
 
crap that does suck. Hope everything is backed up and all turns out well, but getting stuff stolen like that sucks. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a good backup.
 
Just picked Mark up from the airport. Backup is intact so we're safe there. Just a bummer and slight hiccup monetarily.

BUT...

No one is hurt or in jail, so all is well.

Man, I hate to hear the news of stolen property. Especially a laptop... so much info.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone and thanks, Jack, for the post. My attitude for stuff like this is basically, 1) if nobody is hurt, and, 2) nobody is going to jail, then its pretty much small stuff in the big picture.

We have been much much better about backups. When we flew back from the Vienna Teng shoot we had 3 copies in three places, which seemed particularly good when the luggage failed to show up. There is a little work on the laptop not backed up but which we can re-do pretty easily (as well as an outstanding porn collection) but otherwise its not a disaster except for the $4,500 hit to replace it (sh*t, that's more than nine iPhones).

I was in the bathroom and didn't pay attention to the other guy at the sink. I made a police report and perhaps they'll have a surveillance video that will I.D. him. It really sucks, but could have been much worse (had he taken my whole briefcase with my other laptop and my terabyte drive, for instance).

Lesson learned this time.

That sucks, man. Can't even take a crap without getting jacked.... shame.

Glad to hear you still have the backups though.... A little bitter sweet, but still some sweet in there nonetheless.

Man, that blows. Did you document the exact time you were there. They should have a security video of the guy. And I can't friken believe they are still doing this at an airport. Isn't it a felony now?

Man, just tell the cops that you were having a fake conversation about having top secret stuff on you laptop. So whoever took it must be a terrorist. Maybe then they will actually look for the guy.

God forbid I don't put a quarter on the meter, cus I get a ticket in 2 min. but steal a laptop in an airport and yeah whatever.
