Where do the 4 audio channels come from?

As far as I can see, the HVX only has stereo audio inputs, and should be giving me 2-channel recordings to P2. The Final Cut ingest process results in 4 channels.

So 2 extra audio channels got created somewhere along the way -- fine. There's nothing in them anyway, so they don't interfere.

Except today, when I tried to view some footage in the P2 Import dialogue (and then imported and examined on a timeline) - the 4th audio track was pure static, max volume white noise. This happens whether I'm trying to ingest right from the P2 cards over firewire, or if I copy the P2 contents to the hard drive first. When I'm just playing the files on a disconnected camera, the audio is fine.

Once I get the clips in I can just delete the 3rd and 4th channels on a timeline and everything's fine. But it makes it a terrible headache in the capture and review process, because the static completely drowns my good audio tracks out.

Any idea where this noise track would be coming from, and how I might be able to avoid it in the future?

if input 1 and input 2 are set to channels 1 and 2 then 3 and 4 should be the internal mic if im not mistaken. All 4 channels are mono.

What if Channel 1 and 2 are set to INT? is it then doubling the internal mic so that INT(L) is on 1 and 3, and INT(R) is on 2 and 4? Or do INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 go to channel 3 and 4?

Four channels: xlr1, xlr2, int l, int r. If you put the xlrs on 1 & 2, int = 3 & 4. If you put the int on 1 & 2, xlr = 3 & 4.
