Where are they? - the answers

Wait a minute guys. Are they coming from Panny USA on the 29th or from Japan? If from Japan on the 29th, I doubt they'll be hitting doorsteps here early next week. Which is it?

I think the first ones are being expressed over from Japan on the 29th.. which means they should get here tommorow if we are lucky, but more likely monday.. but as you can imagine thats gonna be a small shipment. The rest are sent, but the normal way, but a big mothership crate, and they will take a couple weeks your right.. mid January hopefully.

Unless of course a hurricane comes and eats all of our DVX's in the middle of the ocean..

i wonder if there is enough styrofoam in there to make those boxes float :)

I can see the headlines now...

"Hundereds of 'DVXusers' gather on the Oregon and California coasts to await high tide. - Many seen swimming out to sea."

ha ha ha.. good one.

truth is.. i bet there would be a few people here renting speedboats on a rescue mission in a heartbeat.

Actually, if they are coming from Japan to America, I think it would be a monsoon that sinks the ship.

..i just spoke with 2 different major U.S. distributors after finding out i cant pick mine up today. from what they both said, nothing signfigant went out on the 29th and the initial big shipment was delayed..yada yada.. they both expect some in in Jan. looks like the 27th is the new arrival date for me. oh well. ive got other things to do anyway, but wouldve been nice to kick off the new year with it in hand. ah well ..in good time.. in good time.

Well, lets say they ship them out from Japan Tuesday January 3rd by sea. That is a one week trip, then it has to clear the container area at the docks (make sure no-nukes are hidden) add 3 days, then transport by truck to store (2 days), then inventory by store (2-3 days), then notification to all you folks on the list (1 day), credit card or checks must clear, then shipping by ground (add another week). You are looking at January 24th the earliest to have your treasured HVX in your arms. Realistically, I feel Valentine's Day is when your sweetheart will arrive. And if it doesn't............... St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

IF the cameras were coming from Japan, the first shipment would come via air. Why? Because Panasonic needs the first users out there working with the cameras ASAP and each week of delay means more risk of someone who is not sure, going out and buying something else. Panicsonic isn't stupid, the extra shipping cost would be well worth the positive buzz that would come from the first users.

As I recall from Jan's presentation, the cameras were going through 100% QA in Washington (???). OK, I'm not 100% sure of the location, but it was in the USA. There is a slim chance that someone in the USA may receive their camera before the year's end. My guess is that the first week or second week of January is when most of the first users will get their cameras.

I received a call yesterday AND today from Able Cine Tech saying they would ship my camera today and I would get it tomorrow. I was expecting it in mid January so I am excited... but really I'm expecting to be disapointed when I get the bad news they didn't get them in....I already let my girl friend know I had a date with a hot new camera for tomorrow too. What will the new year hold?

I recieved a call from my Panasonic dealer yesterday.
They said the camera should be in Montreal by january 15.
Well, patience is a great virtue ...heh heh...
But i much prefer they take a few days more and ship a great great product.

...and i really think Panasonic considers the HVX200 as a pro camcorder.
,,,that's why, i think, they take their time to deliver something 100% right.

...just think about it...a very lightweight pro camcorder with a pro codec (DVCProHD)
with a ton of creative features, ... under 10 K !!!

Who would have imagined that 2 years ago ?

OK...patience...patience...

Panasonic's main shipping warehouse is in Seattle or thereabouts. That's where DVXs come into the country and get distributed from there.

Where exactly in Seattle are they? And would they really miss one if it fell off the truck? I'll be at pike place later, that would be a great location for some test shots, assuming there was a portabrace slicker in the warehouse too...

It's kind of odd that they would distribute from here, since there's no one in Seattle carrying the HVX as far as I know. Then again, during WTO they said this was the biggest port on the West Coast.

Exactly. As I understand it, it has nothing to do with cameras, it's a major distribution warehouse for all Panasonic products. It's where the boats from Japan dock.

They said somewhere down the line that it will ship for USA this year. So you were willing to hold on a little longer... Now, 29 December is this year right? So the delivery date is set on that date, than you all now in reality it will be delivered in 2006.

Its all marketing intelligence to ship a product the very last working day of the year, but who cares? You can start 2006 with a new product.
