Where are they? - the answers

Dec 29th has come and almost gone. OK, I did not expect to wake up with my new camera at my doorstep, but I did however expect to close the day with a great deal more information. NO announcements, NO schedules, NO follow through. In my eyes Panasonic is losing face very quickly. All the well documented expectations deserve at least some kind of UPDATE? My Dealer left today with no more information than last week. He can't even get his rep. to return his call. This evasiveness sounds a bit shady to me.
If Dec 29th is just another day than why did they name it in a press release. Some acknowledge would be nice. Does anyone know if these cameras are real, and if there is any intention to ship ANY, how many and when.... Those are answers I did EXPECT today.

Having a hissy fit, are we? Well, the answer is--no, the HVX isn't real--it's a fictional character in the dvxuser.com script. Skipping ahead a few pages in the script, I see the part where you continue to troll and get banned from the forum. Care for a rewrite? :)

so barry let's get some download of info from you. what do you think so far? has the book been started? stable? solid? etc? if you have this info in another thread please paste it here so we can go and find it.

thanks,

tom

What I think so far is that the HVX is an absolutely amazing tool. People getting hung up on pixel count or whether XLH1 24F is full res or not are totally missing the point. The HVX does so many more things than these other cameras, it's in a world entirely and completely unto itself.

I have an article about ready to post, about the variable frame rates; I just have to finish post on the accompanying video portion. Hopefully this article will start to show people that worrying about which one does 750 lines and which one does 730 lines is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, whereas with the HVX we're talking about skipping the boat entirely and instead piloting our own private jet. We're talking about a quantum leap forward in creative capability.

has the book been started?
I'm at 107 pages so far, just in the essays section, and I have a few more to write. Haven't even gotten into the whole operational/menu item section yet!

stable? solid? etc?
Keep in mind this camera I have is over a month old, it was one of the first fully-functional units, so it's not truly representative of the final version. I'm waiting for a final version before making such determinations. As a software developer, I'm well versed in working with beta products, and this early HVX had a couple of issues but has been remarkably solid.

Alright Barry, now you're just rubbing it in.

Don't mean to! I just can't fathom how this "maybe 1080p doesn't work" thing just won't die. It's absolutely flabbergasting.

YES it does 1080p. YES it does "real" 1080p. YES it does 1080/24p. YES the 1080/24p is noticeably higher resolution than 720/24p. And no this isn't "theory", this is hands-on experience!

As for Kaku not shooting 1080p, maybe that's a cultural thing -- in Japan there seems to be much more acceptance for interlaced video, and not much of an embracing of 24p at all, certainly not like it is in the US where we're rabid for it. It's my understanding that Japanese made-for-TV movies are typically shot in 60i (of all things). Kaku was also pestered for Canon XLH1 24F clips when he had the Canon, because most of the early clips he posted were all 1080i.

OK OK I am venting a little, I know it is real, I just wish I could get some answers, since tomorrow I will be paid in full (tax reasons) just thought Id get a little more info today... Please overlook my venting.
Thanks

I wasn't intending on starting another thread about the capabilities of the camera. I simply was wondering if anyone had any information on production and delivery. Are they shipping, can anyone confirm this, seen one of the "real" ones, or know when we might see them. If anyone has any "inside info" please spill.
Thanks

Man Barry, don't let these cats get to you. Hook that book up bro and hit us with the good news. Take ya time and forget these non-investigating dudes who don't bother to look deeper into things.

I've never known anything this important to work out right. How often does a production day go as planned even if you've been over it a thousand times and have ten people to take care of a specific task.

Cars never come out on time. Electronics, rarely as well. If the machine stopped just to give bit of info we could loose days of development time.

People are so crazy about this camera that it's almost cultish. Let's not loose track of reality. It'll get here when it gets here.

PS-There's no such thing as Santa. Hope I didn't spoil it for anybody.

As I understood it from Rush at EVS, today (Dec 29) is the day that Panasonic is scheduled to ship the first orders to dealers. Given the big holiday weekend and the fact that large shipments like this go via Ground, it seems doubtful that the cameras will arrive at dealers until Jan 2nd or 3rd and then the dealers can begin to ship them to the first in the order queue.

So you'll have to give it another week before our Forum friends start getting theirs.

Yes they're shipping, Kaku in Japan already has his and has had for like 24 hours. They're on the boat or plane or whatever from Japan, should be here in short order.

Sweet! Looking forward to the book Barry!

Thanks for your patience and your Serene Highness  as well, for the certitude of your words and your convictions, at least, far away from your silence.

Barry,

That's great progress on the book. I'm very much looking forward to it because you did such a thorough job on the DVX book. I really appreciate all your hard work.

Here here! I just got my DVX100B and Barry's Book and DVD are a terrific help.

yes everyone.. dont sweat the delay.. this week has all been a wash cause of the holidays.. tons of stuff i ordered before christmas still hasnt arrived so I kinda figured the 29th wouldnt drop any cameras at the doorsteps.. its a long way from Japan. I have a feeling they will come in spurts, small shipments at a time till they catch up.
