For Daveswan
When we're referring to "soccer moms" we're usually talking about middle to upper middle class women who often get these higher end consumer models because they can afford to do so. They like the "hip" factor of this stuff, but really....they just want to point and shoot (for example, their kid's soccer match) and have it come out looking good.
I'm generalizing of course.
OK got it now .
Yes a "bog-standard" handicam would be a much better for filming footie in the park, esp a muddy pitch in winter
Back on topic, I'm thinking that a "simple" raw format might be paradoxicly easier to implement if it just means pulling data off the sensor, doing just enough to clean it up then squirting out to a recorder. OK the data rate is humungous but the computing is easier than calculating a de-mosaic, then down-converting, then computing IBP GOPs. Leave all the computationally expensive stuff to a workstation which is built for it, something Red's been doing for years.
I still think that a windowed FF35 sensor makes sense, FF high MP for 'togs, cropped easily computed s35 or C for cine.
And no, I'm not going to speculate, just throwing out ideas for consideration. My best guess is the 5DIII will have clean video, maybe to nyquist but I doubt it, as to codec, who knows, I certainly think XF is do-able, after all the XF 100/5 and 300/5 record to CF cards,.
We'll just have to wait.
