when will the hvx200 with 16 gb p2 support be released ???

and if i get my hvx200 now, the guy from the store im buying it from says these cameras dont support the 16 gb p2 card ... would they be able to upgrade it at the store ? or would i be able to download something and install it myself ? or am i going to have to send it in to panasonic ?

I don't think there are any cameras with the updated firmware out yet. The latest firmware I know of it the V2.03 firmware released in October of 2006, and that does not support 16GB cards.

I read something on Post Magazine about a 32GB P2 card. Are both the 16 & 32 GB P2 cards gonna work with the HVX200?

I was told at NAB that any US HVX that has a serial number starting with "E7" should have the new firmware already installed. That is, any manufactured in May 2007 should have it.

And yes, the 32GB card was announced and should be out in November, and yes both the 16GB and the 32GB will work with the HVX200, provided that you have the latest firmware installed. The firmware for the 16GB card hasn't been published yet, but it will be when the 16GB cards are available.

but the firmware for it is definately something i can deal with ? and i wont have to send my camera off ? sorry im a rookie... and thanks again

Yep, it's super easy to do yourself. Same with the firmware on the actual P2 cards (which will likely be the most recent if they're new).

Updating the camera firmware is a matter of downloading it from Panasonic's website, copying it to a SD card in a specific location, putting the card in the camera, and selecting a firmware upgrade menu item that only shows up when a SD card with firmware is found.

You can use the SD card for both scene files and to keep the firmware update on, it doesn't need to be wiped out to prepare it fo a different use.

I left the firmware files on the card after updating the camera in case I run across a camera that hasn't been updated yet.
