When using a rig or Steadicam do you have OIS on or off?

I use OIS off. There are disadvantages to using the oimm in certain circumstances... for me, shoulder rig and glidecam are 2 of those times. If your glidecam or steady gimbal rig of some sort is balanced properly, lense image stabilization shouldn't be necessary.

I agree this makes sense, but in experimenting before shooting (also my first time flying), I found that the OIS did a nice job of covering up the occasional small jitter when I coaxed the rig into a pan.

I fully realize that an experienced operator does not need OIS. But in testing it yielded a superior result, so that's how I went.

I flew a 14-140 on a af100 with MEGA ois, using a glidcam 4000. Which I guess would be SUPER MEGA OIS:

Nice use of titles. Was that using After Effects?
I guess that the af100 does not have an ETC mode? One thing I have noticed when using the MEGA OIS on my 14-140mm is an occasional moment where the whole image "jumps" and them goes steady again. This seems to mainly (or perhaps only) occur when I am using the ETC mode. Something to do with the image processing perhaps?

No hard feeling meant - I just wanted to point out to the o/p that if his rig is balanced, he shouldn't need ois. I would hate to get on the field thinking my glidecam was perfect then turn ois off and have to fiddle for the next 2 hours getting it just right.

When used in conjunction though, they can compliment each other I'm sure.
