Would you use a light meter like you were taking stills?

It would seem superfluous, since the nice thing about digital is that it's "what you see is what you get." But I say "Why not?" if it helps you to nail exposure. Especially considering the lack of built-in zebra stripe functionality.

I don't use a light meter when I DO shoot stills so, no, I won't use one when shooting video on a DSLR either.

As a still photographer shooting film, I would always meter off camera with a incident reading. I only do that with film. Since I now have a LCD that gives me instant feedback with both video and stills, I really don't see the point anymore. Though, I would like to have a nice color meter that would tell me the color temp of the lights I'm shooting in.

I guess I'm "Old School" and I use a light meter and not the one in the camera.

For stills I have always used a light meter.I dont trust my old eyes and the lcd on the camera. For my dvx100a I have used zebra stripes and dv rack the waveform monitor to dial it in. I had wondered since its a slr. Would a light meter reading still be pretty close?
