When power down, loses timecode

If regen is selected, does this mean an internal memory battery is dead? What else should I look for? Shooting 30p

Regen picks up the timecode off the tape. If you want to guarantee that you're picking up the timecode, use the REC CHECK button before shooting so it can re-prime the timecode.

It's also possible that the internal battery might be dead, but that shouldn't affect regen. But you can charge the internal battery by plugging the camera into the wall socket for a good four or five hours.

It's worth noting that the internal battery in my DVX hasn't ever gone dead in well over five years of owning and using the thing.

Ah..so rec check is faster than find end??..find end takes forever. Is this behavior normal? Past cams have kept track of TC upon power down/up without issue.

Yeah, just plug it into the wall. I think it's supposed to have the power off, but ... maybe it's on? I don't remember. But it's in the manual...

XH A1 Internal Battery Recharge

Page 27! Just letting everyone know
Dug my well packed Canon XH A1 out as we are cleaning house this weekend and I charged the batteries last night.

The time code/date were, off of course... all forgotten as the camera had been unused and in a closet for over 4 years!
Camera seemed dead.

I took a fully charged BP-950G and put it in the battery bay and made sure the camera was "Off" and the "Standby/Lock" button was on "Standby".

This morning the dang thing works like a champ! Just had to enter the date and time. I had not stored the camera correctly (not set to "off")... and I had not tried the aforementioned switch... yet it worked!!!!

Now we're going back in to that closet and look for other stored goodies (DC Coupler, tapes, head cleaner, etc.)

Just a heads up to you guys with older cameras in good shape... I am one happy camper today!!!!!
