When is the expected release for the A7Siii? (roughly)

I'm planning to finally update to a 4k camera after 5 years with my canon Mark iii for my stock footage business. I was initially looking into the A7iii but figured I may as well wait for the flagship camera but how long should I be waiting for exactly? Does anyone know a rough time for it's release?

I may end up running out of patients and just get the A7iii if it takes too long but I'd like to wait if it's only round the corner.

I predict sometime in the fall, but you never know. I find the BMPCC 4K tempting, but it's a very different camera than the A7SIII.

If it meets your requirements, just get the A7III and don't worry about the A7SIII. Right now, the A7III is the best body for video outside of an FS5/FS7.

I currently own the A7III and A7RIII using them both extensively for video. I've also owned the A7RII. A7R, A7S and A7SII. (also own an FS7, fwiw.) I'm heading out on Wednesday to shoot a series of events around the USA. Leaving the FS7, taking the A7III and the A7RIII for backup. (With a Pix-E5 recorder for crispy ProRes 4:2:2)

July announcement shipping in September if we're lucky, September announcement shipping in December if they struggle but try to be in time to spoil the p4k party. But it may be even later, only they know.

I don't think there will ever be an A7SIII. It only really appealed to video shooters. With the A7III Sony have a camera that's close to the original A7's capability but with much more attraction to shooters who shoot both stills and video. 24 mega-pixels is pretty acceptable for stills even today. I may be wrong but i don't think so. +1, Agree with Rdouthit. Just grab an A7III. For the $$$s a great performer.

Personally I expect an a7Smk3 to happen.

But also I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen during the next year or two....

The a7mk3 and a7Rmk3 are both pretty good for video now! (unlike the a7 mk1 or aR mk1, which were poor at video, thus an a7S mk1 was important)

And to carry THREE kinds of a7 series models plus the a9, plus the APS-C stills bodies (plus the FS5 etc above the stills bodies), well maybe Sony might feel it is time to slow down the release cycle of one of their bodies?

Sony needs a 4k 60fps option soon, I don't think they can wait for the a7 IV to offer that. So yes, I think there will be an a7S III.

And I hope it gets a 24 Mpix sensor. I believe Sony has moved to a stacked-sensor strategy, sharing some layers of their 24 Mpix design for a7III, a9, and VENICE, while changing the ADC and processing layers to provide whatever special each camera requires (cheap, fast, 16-bit). I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with a version designed for video but not as high-end as the one for VENICE.

My expectation is "like an a7III but it shoots 4k 60fps video". 10-bit may or may not be there. You can wait for that or just get an a7 III. Or a p4k in September.

You could also argue that Sony "needs" a 10bit option, even if only an 10bit external output option! Something Panasonic has done for a very long time since the GH4

But.... Sony does not.

It is very possible that Sony will hold back 60fps for another generation.

Or maybe they won't. I don't know. Just saying that I wouldn't feel comfortable predicting it either way.

I definitely have no idea what they'll bring. I think 4k 60fps is more likely than 10-bit because even phones have that now, but who knows, maybe they'll bring both, maybe none.

Even-more-personal note: for me to buy an a7S III, it would definitely need to have 4k 60fps and at least 20 Mpix for stills, ideally 24. 10-bit would be icing on the cake, but without those two, I'll just get a p4k for $1300 and wait for the next generation.

According to "sources" on rumor sites, it's supposedly ready...but Sony was legit taken aback from the huge demand for the a7III that they decided to delay the announcement.

Take it for what it's worth, but there is no doubt an a7SIII is coming.

Despite Sony's absurd claims that you can have HDR in 8-bit I think you really need 10 bit.
I would stay away from any new video camera on the market that does not support HDR in 10 bit, it's a baseline as far as I am concerned.

My expectations:

- New mkIII body “like A7III etc” but with
- Lower resolution (maybe 18mpix?)
- VENICE colour profile like FS5mkII
- 8bit internal, 10bit external.
- Maybe 60p only externally as well

Would be nice if they shock us with raw via hdmi to the Ninja. But highly doubt it.
