When is the actual release date?

This page states that RED has a targeted release date of early 2007. Also, they say that the footage is scheduled for fall 2006 and it has said this for a few months now. This is the only page on the site that hasn't been updated yet. RED was two weeks early for their first presentation of the 4K footage. Which means that they are advancing rather quickly. The page says that they plan to have prototypes available in December.

I'm not sure if this is very clear. It's just some random info that made me think.

So what I think is that since the FAQs haven't been up dated for a while, RED may come sooner than 2007. The prototypes might be available in November and the production models December.

Not likely; Red's been very active on this board and they would make any such production schedule changes known. Last I heard the prototype is still scheduled for December, and production units are still aimed at "early 2007", which could mean anywhere from January to April.

Keeping in mind those are projected dates, and several factors could extend them to later time frames. Indeed, RED is active here and if they positively see that they won't be able to meet the projected time frames, I'm sure we'll hear about it here.

So, if it comes out in April, it'll be around the same time that Mac OS X v10.5 comes out. And Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 obviously doesn't support 4K. Yet I'm still skeptical about the Final Cut Extreme. I don't know why I even brought it up.

Anyway I do think that RED would say something. But as time passes, we will get more information. Just like with the 4K presentation at IBC.

I believe Jim mentioned in another post that the timeline is tentative. It could be late April, or Mike Curtis' estimate is later. There are so many variables, that they have to give themselves some room for delivery.

Personally, I've revised when I'm expecting to get my camera. It's not ideal, but hopefully is worth the wait.

It's all speculation, Auditory - you have as much information as we do. :)

I am confident that Jim and Co. are working as hard as they can to both deliver the maximum quality they can achieve and in the soonest timeframe possible. It has been repeatedly mentioned that early 2007 is the target date, and that they are still looking positively toward that, but the dates are not set in stone and they will finish when they finish. Just take a deep breath and all of the information will be revealed as it's ready. We haven't even gotten to see the sensor footage in detail yet!

Exactly my feelings too.

Make no mistake about it, when red one ships the knives will be out to find faults with it! Since most of us believe the footage will silence the critics what else will the critics have to complain about.

That is why red are doing all they can to make sure the body is the right size and all the parts are where they ought to be etc etc. Even the red extra's like the red rails is being looked at thoroughly.

Who want's a red one that is seen to have serious faults that had to be expensively and quickly put right by "red two".....?

Someone looking at the latest photo's thought red was "over engineered"
I love over engineered products theyre built to last.

Red digital cinema camera = Built to last....works a treat and the footage is bloody great too:beer:

February would be fantastic!

But like many of you, especially the RED pre-order applicants, I would definitely want the RED to be perfect when it's released and if that means I'll have to wait an extra month or two, that's fine with me. The RED is going to open doors, or rather break them down, so it'll be worth the wait I'm sure.

I could give a rat's bottom when it comes out.. The only date I care about is the date that Jim looks at the camera and says to his team:

"Damn Guys... We can't do any better than THIS.. Let's release this puppy!"

On that day, I will rejoice.. Until then I still think my SDX900 is one of the best cameras in the universe and quite possibily this entire time/space demension.

Sorry.. Geeked out there for a moment.

By the way, I threw together a small video of my Son and his dog with my 900 a couple of days ago and it's ranking pretty high on the cute meter.. If you can view WMV feel free to enjoy it if you like that sort of thing, I love positive feedback. You can keep the negative stuff to yourself since I was not paid to do it.
