When Filming Skating

When filming with the stock lens (no fish, adapter, etc.) for the transworld look is it better to rock the OIS or just let it ride? Again, this is tripodless as well.

I'd go with the OIS turned on - especially if it's handheld
...but that's just personal preference (I've got caffeinated, shaky hands)
:)

I would say use OIS. I think most people turn it off to try to achieve the infamous "film look" (which is a term i'm starting to get sick of hearing).

How long have you used a DVX? If you're new to it, you should just practice and try different settings until you find the look you want

Well I film BMX and skating and I turn it on, do you purposely want to make it look rough and shaky because transworld videos arent like that.

It lowers the res just a little bit. Do you shoot 30p? or 24? Do you really even need a fisheye with the dvx, it's lens is crazy wide as it is? I'm not big on the fisheye look, its kinda old. I saw the 2007 red bull rampage (bmx) it was shot pretty well they had some random rack focus shots from a flower to a guy boostin a wallride to tailwhip (morgan wade possibly). Ryan Navasio (spell check) is one of those really talented guys that does hella bmx videos.

Are you referring to the OIS, or to using a fish eye? Cause if it's the OIS, I don't believe that affects resolution. Electronic OIS does, but the DVX's brand is purely optical. Of course, I could be mistaken, but that's been my experience.

Well I would never film with a death lense, its looks stupid and old. Semi fisheyes are the way to go.

ryan navazio is a big bmx videographer. Put em inta google you will see. He's a badass, once in a while he busts out his 16mm cam for a couple shots. No, Ryan Nyquist and Nasty have not conceived a child, but I bet that thing could backflip and barspin like a machine. Oh I didn't know that the dvx's OIS doesn't lower res, I am still used to my "pieceashite" (say it like you are in Trainspotting), that thing would lose like a third of its single check when you would flip on the "anti-shaky hands" logo button.

Navaz is a good guy, 9 to 5 productions has taken off well and the new Odyssey Electronical is a must see.

i dont know about that, the riding was top notch, but they did something with the scene files and a lot of the stuff looks really bad, especially all the bro-cam stuff in levans part

Yea, he avoids bro cam as much as possible, but he can't be all over america at the same time when doin big vids for ride, so bro cam is the sad solution to shooting a massive video with a deadline.

pardon my ignorance, but what is bro-cam?

pretty much when a non camera man (usually another rider...hence the "bro" part) fills in behind the lense. Usually its kinda "half assed", and its not gonna be awesome angles or filming. Not saying there isnt good bro cam but its generally not as good.
