When are we getting a frikkin' firmware update?!

There has been soft whispers of a firmware update coming in November, but I don't have anything 100% solid on that.

How about being able to assign a different function to control dials on side of camera and grip. Right not, they both do the same thing. I'd love to have direct access to iris and ISO without needing to press the Function button. That one is long overdue.

How about opening up all buttons for customization. I find the layout not particularly well thought out. There are LOT of changes I would make if I could individually customize each button. Very few buttons would remain the way they are if I had total control.

Canon is way too spread out in all directions right now to do anything in response to the F5 or F55 anytime soon.

They are having to 1) Field requests for C300/C500 updates, 2) Trying to launch (and to justify) the C100, 3) Trying to fix-up and launch the 1DC, 4) Trying to fix the cries from 5D Mark III owners, 5) Mulling over the 7D Mark I vs Mark II, 6) Do they go with a Full Frame video camcorder and how that affects the rest of their line-up?, 7) How to anticipate and fend off Nikon in the hybrid DSLR-Cinema race...etc. 8) And the biggest kicker is that I am not so sure if they have fully worked out how their video division will work with their photo division, so on top of all that there is still trouble in execution.

They got too much baggage at the moment to do anything quite frankly unless they choose to never release the 1DC and C100 and other projects they still have on their plate.

Just adding my voice to the thread that I believe its overdue.

Theres been many users like Bryan and myself and many resellers like Film Tools that have got right behind Cinema EOS from day dot. I think we're due a little cookie.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, some flavor of 1080p/60, or even 1080/48, would attract even more buyers. Probably many more.

I'd order two immediately, especially with the current incentives, & more down the road.

Canons Digicprocessor can't do 1080p60. The hardware is to old (same as in the XF series).

They've painted themselves into a corner.
A foolish corner that shows all the signs of dysfunctional corporate decision making.
"Hey look at this great new sensor we've developed, let's cripple it with old processor hardware and codecs, no one will notice."
You have to try really hard to ruin the kind of industry changing momentum that Canon accidentally built with the 5DII.
They've acted confused since, and now look simply clueless.
What a shame.

Canon themselves said Digic can't do 1080p60. Maybe the C500 has another chip? According to the specification you can only record 50i/60i internally on the C500, just like on the C300, but you can output higher fps through SDI.

+++ My biggest gripe with the C300 is this stupid arrangement.

I've heard this from a few people, but it's important to realize that it's arranged like this for a reason: if you don't have the side handle attached, you still need a quick way to adjust aperture. Of course, I suppose a function could be installed to override and default the body wheel to "iris" if the side handle is not attached?

Canon reps were also saying the 5DIII wasn't able to output a clean full HD 422 signal out the HDMI due to hardware restrictions and yet they announced a firmware update to unlock it. I would imagine reps are just told to say its a hardware limitation for any feature currently not available and really have no actual idea.

They use the same digic processor as on the XF-series. Neither camera does 1080p60. They have explained it time after time that the sensor is capable of 60fps output but not the processor. It would be good if they are wrong but they should know their camera and the limits within right? I talked to Peter Yabsley about it half a year ago and got the same answer.
