Well, Westfest has got me watching a lot of Westerns as of late. Even the ones I have never seen before on Encores Western Channel. Just wondering what some of your favorite Western movies might be?

A few of mine

Open Range - This is probably my favorite of any one of them.
3:10 To Yuma(Remake) - I have both on DVD, but I like the new one better.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - What else is there to say.
Tombstone - Kurt Russel is the man, but I prefer Dennis Quaids Doc
The Magnificent Seven

The Proposition is one of my favourite Westerns... 3:10 is great... Open Range was decent... Unforgiven is classic... watching more for research so I will update this post in a couple days!

I haven't seen too many, but I enjoyed The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, The Searchers, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Out of those, Once Upon... is probably my favorite.

Oh damn, too hard to pick just one. The Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, The Wild Bunch, My Name Is Nobody, 3:10

All things Clint., with Josey Wales at the top of the list.

The Quick and the Dead

And my all time fave ...

Little Big Man

I like most of the classics and modern westerns but I'm a big fan of the revisionist westerns like:
Culpepper Cattle Co
Dirty little Billy
McCabe and Mrs.Miller
Most of Peckinpahs westerns Ride and High Country, Wild Bunch, Pat Garret and Billy the Kid
I was able to check out a few famous western sets in Durango Mexico area in 2001. I was scouting locations for a western that never came together, the local film commission was very helpful but security was a major issue that couldn't be resolved.

I love most of what's already been mentioned. The Unforgiven is probably near the front of the pack for me. I just love that movie. It gets better with age.

I love Unforgiven as well, but the kid's performance kinda takes me out of it. It feels way overacted to me. A very off-the-shelf character that Clint should have picked up on, and made the adjustments. IMHO

The rest of the performances were stellar.

And of course, the film took home 4 Oscars and had 5 other nominations, so my point is probably moot.

I look at it this way, even his character (Schofield Kid) was just a role he was playing. He was always trying to come off as someone that he wasn't so I didn't mind his overacting, it seemed to fit. Once he pulled the trigger we finally saw his true self and I thought he played that part just fine.

Once Upon a Time in the West....awesome.

Wow, there's a throw back!!

C'era una volta il West - a flop in the US theaters, but huge in Europe/Italy.

I had forgotten that one.

Found this blurb about it ...

In 2009, it was named to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant and will be preserved for all time.

"Blood Meridian," by Cormac Mccarthy. Hopefully they don't screw it up whenever it gets made.
Not a big fan of "Once upon a time in the West" .
