Whats your favorite mount/lens for the GH1

I just swapped out of my EOS system, to focus more on video than photography. I believe I am getting a GH1 monday, because the 7D is a bit out of my price range..

I sold off my of gear so I'm starting from scratch, couldn't find much in terms of what is the best glass for this lens. In a perfect world I'd like to have 1-2 adapters that cover a decent amount of cheap primes.. any tips would be greatly appreciated, also if u have some demo photos fo the lens wide open I'd appreciate it as well! Super excited to start using the cam though!

I love the Canon FD 35mm f/2.0. In fact so much I got two of them, one with lens gears for the follow focus rig and one without for quick 'street photography' handheld style of shooting. I use a ciecio7 FD adapter, a friend got ciecio7's Nikon F-mount adapter (without the aperture adjuster for modern Nikkors) - we are both very happy with them.

I have the Ciecio7 adapter for Nikon F-mount and have been very happy with it. I have used mainly a Nikon 135mm 2.8, Nikkor-S 50mm 1.4 and Nikkor 28mm 2.8. The 28mm has been my workhorse, although I think a 35mm 2.0 might just be the sweet spot and have been looking to get one. Martti may have just convinced me to buy one sooner than later!

I also hope to get the Lumix 20mm 1.7 pancake before too long and have thought about getting one of Ciecio's DX adapters and getting a Tokina zoom with Nikon mount. If only I had deeper pockets...

So what would I use for the Nikon lens' I have from my D40 ( AF-S NIKKOR 55-200mm 1:4-5.6 G, NIKKOR 50mm 1:1.8D) etc...? Thanks...

A Leica M adapter with the 50mm F1.0 Noctilux has been my favorite lens on the camera so far, but is also heavy and somewhat unwieldy to use. The Lumix 20mm Pancake is a close second which is pretty amazing when you think about it...and sooo handy!

Lake Films, Ciecio7 makes an adapter for DX type Nikon lenses. It has a thumbscrew that allows you to control the lens aperture. As far as that zoom goes, you might not even find much need for it since the kit lens is wider and still pretty long at the same speed.

Thanks Ron. Do you recommend I contact him and ask what adapter I would need?

I also just won a Cannon Lens FD 50mm 1:1.8 from ebay, so I would need 2 adapters...

I just checked out eBay, and here's a link to the Canon FD adapter:

This would work for all Nikons, including those newer lenses you already have:

Personally, I'd just get the Canon adapter for now. That FD lens you just won would be pretty much the same as the Nikon and the zoom, as I mentioned, doesn't give you much over the kit lens except a little length. The Nikon is just as slow, doesn't get as wide, and doesn't have the benefit of autofocus with the GH1 (not sure about IS).

A lot of people use Canon FD lenses with the GH1, and it seems like you might want to start collecting them. There is a huge range of available glass and they tend to be pretty inexpensive.

I'm using Minolta Rokkors... they are usually better than Canon/Nikon, and sometimes cheaper.

Right now I have: 24/2.8, 28/2, 35/1.8, 50/1.4, 85/1.7 and 100/2.5

Minolta is known for great bokeh and color consistency between the range, so I can have a full set of lenses with a similar "look" (this is very important with video)

I also have a M42 adapter with some Takumars... Takumars are great also, but the "inverse focus" bothers me.

Does anyone know the difference between the Minolta MD's and the Roxxer? Which one's better?

I also had the same question, the difference between Minolta MDs and Roxxer, that is if roxxer is the same as MFs, and which adapter would fit these MFs/roxxor?

Using mft, canon fd, PL, and C mount.

PL is the sweetest feeling. Canon FD is the best compromise, mft would be awesome if that kit lens, sharp as it is, was 2.8 would be awesome.

Yet still, if it covered the image sensor, C mount would've been the most fun, and my favorite. I made many mattes for my lcd, i have a scope matte, a 4:3 matte, and an SD matte for the c mounts, i just shoot my own dinky stuff with them, but i love the glass. It's fun.

The Rokkors have better all metal construction, the MDs are newer designs, smaller and lighter, with a 49mm filter thread.

The Rokkors are better, but the MDs are great also.

thanks for all the input and sorry for the late response! after looking into the rokkors it seems like they offer some beautiful primes at a cheap price. I guess the debate is between these and canon FD's! has anyone tested the 16mm f/2.8 on the gh1? really interested in this lens!

The 16mm Rokkor? it's a fantastic lens, amazingly sharp. But it's a fish-eye lens, there will be some distortion on the GH1.

The best Rokkor lenses:

16mm fish-eye
24mm f/2.8 MC (The Leica 24mm is a Minolta clone)
28mm f/2 MD
58mm f/1.2 MC
85mm f/1.7 MC or MD

The only lens in the FD line that looks interesting to me is the 24mm 1.4L, but sooo expensive

do you have the 16mm? I shoot a lot of action sports so the fisheye is actually a plus for me! if u have it I'd be interested if u have time to see a clip off the lens, curious how it crops and such. Also really interested in the 500 f8, $300 for an amazing surf lens...

I have the 16mm in AF Maxxum mount, I'm almost sure it's the same design, but it's not so wide on my A700 (1,5 crop). Maybe you should look for a more extreme lens like the 6,5mm Vivitar/8mm Bower/Polar/Samyang lens.

The fish-eye effect of the 16mm on the GH1 will be very minimal...you will lose the distortion on the borders, and all you gonna have is a barrel distortion on the center of the frame.
