I have so much footage in my final cut pro for a project. I usually line up all my tracks with the audio & cut it down from there. I don't think my computer can handle that right now. Should I Just search through some of the clips in the browser window and cut them down there to place into my timeline for the parts I want to use?

What are some ways all you edit your music videos? whats your technique?

I tend to try and line all the takes up on separate layers as well. If it gets to be so many layers that playback is a problem, I deactivate all the layers save for the one I'm cutting at the time. Go through, delete all the footage from that layer that you know you cannot/will not use. Do that for each of the others. Once you've gone through, you can start consolidating layers to lighten the playback load.

yeah okay thats what I figured. I do that way too. I was trying to line everything up with markers but that was confusing me. I am just going back to the way where I line every take on a different video track and cut it down. Thanks!!!!

The reason you cannot edit the footage as you have tried is because you trying to edit from a USB drive.

Not going to work.

Get a fast 7200 rpm FW800 drive, and things will change.

Better to have an idea of what you want to accomplish beforehand, so you have something to work to, then let the happy accidents occur on the way.

I usually sync a large portion of the clips with the main audio,i play thru the clips and see which has the scenes i feel have the best segs of performances. From their i generally start cutting away the pieces that i dont wanna use, after i get all of this down i begin trimming, transitioning, coloring and before you know you'll have a first draft.
