Aight...i've been reading alot on the 7d through these forums and it has taught me alot. but i keep going back and forth in my brain about what can and cant be done with this camera. some people say it cant shoot handheld, some people say it can. and i've seen evidence of both good and bad versions of handheld regarding jello/no jello. One of which was a really good video on vimeo of a college football game shot in 720 60p, on a mono pod with a telephoto lens (cant remember which)

Kholi says (and has evidence to back it up through his vid) that weighing it down will help alot.

SOOO...am i correct in thinking 7d can really handle fast motion action if weighed down or stabilized properly??

when i get the chance to get one i will be testing for sure but thats not for now :)

if you use a viewfinder it help a lot in stabilizing the footage, I think the college football game was shot using a Cavision viewfinder.

I have not had much success with a monopod but it probably would better with a viewfinder as another point of contact.

This is the full package I use for shooting and produces very stable results. You can buy the more expensive packages that probably increase the comfort level for longer shoots.

yes that game was infact shot with the cavision viewfinder. I plan to get a gini shoulder mount off ebay cuz i still have to think of my dvx...but i will be attaching weights to the back. i just wonder how far it can be pushed.

Does 720 60p hold up better than 1080 24p for fast action?

I think it depends a little bit on your definition of "hand held". Does a shoulder mount count as hand held? What about a zacuto-style gunstock or a Redrock Captain Stubling? How about the little Johnny Chung Lee DIY "SteadyCam" device?

My view is, you cannot use the camera for videos without any kind of stabilization equipment, but how much equipment you will need will depend on the kind of shooting you're looking to do.

Personally, I've found all my pure "hand held" as in "hold the bare camera with my hands only" footage to be utterly useless.

Yeh handheld for me I meant some kinda shoulder mount device, even though I can see that there are many different "handheld" setups with these dslr's. I def know u need some stabilization.when I get the 7d I hav to go with the dsl-17 from ebay as I think this wud be the best compromise for me with my dvx.
