Whats the new Nikon?

Your guess is as good as anyones. Maybe a D90 update? Maybe a D700 update? I would guess they come out with 1080 HD on the next DSLR. They better have that and full controls and a longer record time.

Some random statement from Nikon Sweden (?) saying that 1080p would happen sometime in the future is no reason to think it's gonna be any time soon, or that any particular camera is gonna be any time soon.

Or the D700s with the new D3s sensor and 1080p could be unveiled Monday.

Who knows?

Even if Nikon comes out with a worthy competitor on Monday, in my view, they are behind Canon because everyone is using the 5D or 7D workflow. Because let's face it: with digital filmmaking, a proper workflow is as important as the camera.

Nikon already has 1080p30 video, just it is not in dslr, and I think the next dslr will be the D90II (D7000?)

What's the 5d workflow exactly, who's everyone, why is it better, and why is it hard to change to a different one should a new nikon camera require it?

That's not a workflow, it's a phase of transition. h.264 is a delivery codec and problematic for a real workflow. The only thing holding people in check are the lenses and accessory wich only work on canon.
I really hate the fact that we are stuck at speculating over "when is nikon waking up?", while the canon guys are spekulating about 24p RAW output and the general question "when is canon waking up even further?".
I'm not waiting forever, if Nikon doesn't deliver in the next months I will have to switch or I won't get things done

It is hardly "problematic" for the thousands of people who bought the 5dmkii or 7d.

In fact, the various workflows with all of the different editors out there is stupidly simple.

I didn't mean complicated from the start, but in my uni, a lot of students bought the 7D, one could even afford the 5D mkII and they are having a hard time. If you need to edit alot of footage, you better encode it to a faster codec. Not to speak of the quality loss if you have noisy footage. I like H.264 for delivery to youtube and vimeo, but it eats up grain and fine details and is not editing friendly.

It's a real downer having to convert your footage before you can start editing...it's like capturing tapes...

I think that is that for Nikon until late summer.

The one company that could really take this video DSLR idea and run with it, yet they seem to be playing it safe. Shame.
