Whats the best way to archive?
Putting the contents into a folder with date and store to two ext. drives?

Most of the times the clips are too long and I like to store only the material I really can use.

How do I store the edited clips, after having edited the clips with Avid Xpress 5.7?
Fastest, without converting?
Something like export to P2, is this possible to other HDD than P2 in camera?

I just keep a single copy of my originals once I'm done working with the footage, unless I think I'm likely to come back to it. I use external drives (although I sometimes retire smaller internal drives this way, too).

I haven't used Avid with P2, but I would experiment with some sort of lossy but HQ compression. You can probably tighten up more than DVCProHD without losing much quality. Even just .zipping P2 directories can save some space, if you're trying to squeeze.

thanks Professor.

I would like to store my data on two seperate external drives in raid for safety reasons.

Can I just connect two eSatas and save in RAID (with Windows Software on laptop?) or do I need a special controller case for the ext. HDDs?

If I don´t need a special controller outside the laptop and this is some kind of function in Windows, how is it done?

You want to set it up with hardware RAID, not software RAID (through windows). You'll get more performance and reliability wtih hardware RAID.

I'm as big a RAID fanboy as the next guy, but sometimes it makes more sense to just do a redundant backup yourself. A RAID 1 array's redundancy doesn't do you any good in an earthquake, flood, fire, theft, etc. Consider just using two external drives and keeping one of them off site.
