What's the best HD to SD workflow?

i'm working on a new tv series that will air in SD NTSC 480i. I want to shoot in HD but it has to look great in SD. Using FCS 2 to edit. I tired shooting in 1080i60
but when going down to SD, the video jitters and it looks like crap. I tried in 720p60
and it looks much better but not as smooth as plain old DV.

I initially created my setup in fcp using NTSC 29.97 10-bit and then dropped my HD footage into a new sequence. When the dialog box appears, i click "NO" to leave the sequence setting at SD and fcp converts the HD video for me automatically.

Any suggestions on what HD format to use for smooth video and how to work with it in FCP until final output to BetaSP?

Thanks in advance,

Take a look at the matrox mxo box, it'll give you great looking sd downconverts and will do a center extraction if you want. Plus it will give you accurate color on an lcd screen for color timing.
I would imagine that you could cut in any HD format if you use the MXO for output.
