whats more important?

I would have a lot to say about that but this is not the place, I think we are hijacking this tread Nat.

You can PM me if you want or make a new thread in the Caffee.

No offence, but I think I get me an apple now :)

ok... so for the Apple (as in the computer) Do I need a capture card? I thought it aided in real time editing?

So then, would having a RAID card be beneficial for editing? I think on the Apple website its $720 for the Raid card.

Is there anything for the 4th slot if i got all 3?

Raids will help your capture speed, several disks work better than one. Then there is the benefit of having a Raid 5 setup, if a drive goes bad, you simply replace it and nothing is lost. Believe me, that is a comfort, as I have lost a lot due to a drive dying on me.

Apple sells their own raid card. Should i just buy that one on the apple website?

OtherWorldComputing is selling 16gb of ram for the Mac Pro for 539.99, while the apple website is selling 16gb for $3,100.

I mean.... That is a BIG difference. Has anyone had any deals with this company???

Ok. Ive decided to get the Mac. It will include:

2 quad-core 2.8ghz
16gb of memory
2 terabytes of storage
ati3870 512mb
FSC2
Adobe CS4 production Premium
Alesis 6-1/4" studio monitor
Raid card

Is there anything else i need or should consider?

Also, the computer will be hooked up to a 42' plasma. Is there a way to calibrate the TV for when i output?

OWC is great to deal with and their prices are awesome. I've bought memory and hard drives with fast and efficient service. I'm about to buy the same mac pro and will buy my memory from OWC.

Not sure but 16gb seems like overkill, most users say 8 gb is more than enough

So do you just configure your mac from apple with the smallest amount possible of RAM? 2GB? Then you just add more yourself?

Ya. Apple will charge you both arms for hardware you can find else where. I'm pretty much buying a bare bones Mac and adding everything myself. I'll end up saving hundreds doing it that way.

use HDMI cable to hook up to HDTV for best resolution. Apple Display Preferences has a calibration tool.
