What's in the box?

I was curious if anyone could tell me what came with the camera besides the kit lens? Is there a memory card for recording? If not, does the camera have some memory to store video? Just curious what to expect if I go to get one of these. I want to make sure I have everything I need.

Camera, lens and a strap. Battery plus charger and 4 language versions of the manual. Memory card? You got to buy that separate of course.

So you were expecting to not have to buy a card? How much built-in memory would it need to have before you considered it to be "smart"? :)

Cards vary in price according to make, speed and capacity. There are lots of threads about them if you do a search.

There's a little soft case for the lens too, and a cord to hook the camera up to mains power. (Nice touch. Often possible, but rarely included, with stills cameras)

Hmmm... I'm going to step out and say that's a bit stupid. How much do these cards go for?

The thing is so tiny they couldnt find room for onboard mem =)

I have never bought a cam that came with a mem card from factory ever!..lol and im pretty sure you havent either....in a store deal maybe but not from factory.

I bought a 16gig and my general usage doesnt put a dint in. I probably should have got an 8 gig instead because i always upload my shoots on a regular basis...plus i run out of juice long before i will ever run out of mem on the 16 gig. I recon 8 gigs enough to start off with.

I'm a little surprised they didn't include an HDMI cable from cam to TV.

I'm not. Have you seen what they can get away with charging retail for HDMI cables? Thank goodness for monoprice.com. Very few printers come with USB cords either, anymore.

Monoprice cables are awesome and astonishingly cheap.

I got my HD Fury II from them, and they chaged less than $2 for the USB power supply.
