C100: What's coming at NAB for the 'C' line?

Processor upgrades for C100 & C300? We know both cameras have 4K sensors, so compressed 4K is a possibility methinks.

Would love this. I personally think the C100 is the most ergonomic camera on the market period. It's powerful, collapsible and does 95% of what I need. If I could get 10-bit 4:2:2 out of it with another stop of DR and some 1080 slow-mo capabilities, I'd be ecstatic.

Well, rather than all these mods, I would prefer an app installed in the camera which can tell how Roger Deakins would light and shoot in a similar situation. :)

There's more chance of that than a processor upgrade for C100!

My guess as to what's in store for the C line at NAB is; nothing. Maybe a cinema lens or two, but nothing else.

He means paid for firmware upgrades I suspect…1080p50 please for my C100 Mr Canon!!! ;-)

It's all just rumours. Anyone who really knows won't say as they will be under an NDA. Don't waste too much time thinking about it until something actually get's officially announced (if it does).

I am curious how you use the C100. I thought I would love the design, and I still quite like it, but find I still prefer a dslr. Even if a dslr isn't quite perfect yet. They still need a slightly angled handle that would accomodate stills and video simultaneously.

I should mention that I like the dslr form as a concept better. Not in what they are today. For example, if a dslr had a breakout handle like a C100, then it would essentially be able to be the same thing, but the dslr would still be ergonomic when stripped down, whereas the C100 turns into an old-timey box camera when the handle is removed.

The other thing is, "hovering" is not exactly ergonomic. Kills the back and cause muscle stress in the hands. So, a camera is going to go shoulder, and once it does, there are many many cameras out there that can be adapted to, or are already made for that.

Basically, I see the C300/100 as a cool design, but do not see it's merits versus what is already available, and what is possible So, I would be interested to know why you like it. I think Canon 'threw the baby out with the bath water' when they designed the C100/300/500 series.

And so as to not be totally derailing this thread, I ask because I would like to see DSLR's with a functional breakout handle, matching the layout of the camera's right said controls. I would like to see this at this NAB, as this would greatly expand the potential of a dslr body design. Allowing seamless integration with shoulder mounts, 3axis gimbals, tripods, etc. ...but we will see.

This is would be awesome but I fear unlikely. Unless the current processor is up to the task... I can live with being wrong on this!

I just want full quality slow motion on the C300 with variable speeds, all internally.
If it was possible to get more than 10-bit that would be awesome too.

No more bulking up the camera and making it heavier, especially when shooting doc work. Its heavy enough as it is.

As much fun as speculating can be, it looks more and more like there won't be much of anything announced at NAB:
http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/03/much-ado-about-nothing-at-nab-2014-from-canon/
Recent reports about Canon releasing two camera bodies for NAB 2014 in Las Vegas next month look like they were recycled rumors from a long while back.
We’re told by various folks that Canon will make some announcements of non camera items that won’t be a big deal to most people. It looks like a quiet NAB from Canon for the second year in a row.

Something else I would love to see is some kind of module to use XLR.

Hopefully the price stays reasonable due to the already high cost of the 1DC. I applaud Canon if they advance their already released cameras rather then just releasing another version with something that is just a "little better" for a lot more.
