What's better- a 550D/T2i with Magic Lantern + Zacuto VF or the 60D??

T2i IMO. Magic Lantern is awesome for a lot more reasons than just sound control.

The advantage of the 60 is build quality (rebel series is very plasticy) and articulating display. I would totally understand if those are more important to someone, but the t2i and ML offer more features at the end of the day for less money. Headphone monitor is a killer feature as is focus peaking.

each has its advantages:

* t2i with ML: custom cropmarks, live histogram and waveform, zebras, focus peaking, easier white balance, and in general lots of software nice little things

* 60D: flip screen, more confortable grip, wheel for controlling aperture

and by the way: you'll also need a loupe for the 60D; the zacuto one is awesome (e.g. it never fogs), but there are some cheaper ones around (the one cheesycam posted about seems to be good enough for many people)

Not a T2i owner yet but that's what I would go for to.
As said, ML has a lot of good features.
Concerning the screen, I recently found a very cheap solution for a small framing monitor, see here, I say framing and framing only because I would not trust colors, brightness or contrast on a screen of this price.
To me it surely is better than the flip screen since you can move it around and place it just as you wish.
If you are a DIY guy, you could easily create a loupe viewfinder to put on this external screen, that would give you a freely movable viewfinder !

If you want to use the monitor for framing, make sure it has overscan, otherwise you can lose 10% all around the edges - which kinda defeats the object!

Good point. Just asked DeeJay from DSLRfilmnoob.com on Youtube; according to him it doesn't exclude any of the video but does cut a small amount of the grey areas on the top and bottom of the picture. (Source)
I would say it's good enough for its price (28$, yeah, 28)

I'm trying to buy a rebel t2i and all I get from searching is the 550... Are they exactly the same cameras? Will Magic Lantern work on the 550?

Anyone know cheapest place to buy in UK?

Thanks!
