What's a "Snorkelcam"???

Anyone ever heard this term before? A producer asked me if we'd need one, and I hemmed and hawed and said I didn't think so.

Truth is, I've never heard that term used before. I don't even know if it has anything to do with underwater shots.

Any guesses out there?

I believe it refers to a right angle adapter that allows you to shoot at absolute ground level while keeping the camera, say, on a fluid head attached to a high-hat or a low-slung jib arm.

Think of one of those cardboard devices for watching a golf match over the heads of those in front of you (really, two right angles). In your case you'd be shooting down and out instead of up and over.

I'm pretty sure snorkel-cams are the big-ass studio rigs used for table-top product shots. They are very Macro. they are computer controlled for nice smooth moves and VERY expensive.
