I just bought my HMC150 and will be traveling with it for a month. I'm looking for a good rugged travel tripod, something rugged I could put in checked luggage that can do a serviceable job. Any recs?
Depends what your priorty is - do you want something light and easy to travel with? Or something indestructable that can be thrown around cargo holds, dropped off mountains, buried in the desert, etc and still work fine?
The Miller Solo DV series is a solid tripod and is available in Carbon Fibre - perfect for travelling with. The DS10 head should handle the hmc150 nicely.
Buy the best tripod you can afford. It will outlast your camera and when you get to know it and feel with it, your shots will look wonderful.
I use Sachtler. Have for years!
My" nothing over than 25 pounds of gear in the aircraft" tripod is a Fiesol tournament class with a Gitzo composite head...after a year I am still getting used to it.
looks nice to me.
i love the 701 head with my hmc150....compact, light but ruggedly solid.
i like that the legs have a bowl, but they look pretty skinny and not very stable.
but as you say, for a spare/travel tripod, this looks like a pretty good deal.
