What would you want in your dream Film Studio?

Hey guys!

A long time dream of mine has been to open a film studio, and the day has finally come! I will be moving into an empty 2400 sqft warehouse on May 1st, and gradually converting it into a fully functional film studio, along with it being a place of business for my company.

We are totally starting from scratch so we can build ANYTHING, within reason of course, I'm not rich ha ha. Here's a few things I have planned:

White Cyc (a big one)
Editing bay
Lounge / Viewing area with tv and projector, pool table, etc
Kitchen
Office / Business meeting table area
Make up Room

I would love to hear any suggestions you may have on ideal things to have in a film studio. My idea is to rent it out to local film productions here in Vancouver. I hope to make it as functional as possible, while at the same time being comfortable and nice to look at.

So what are some things you would suggest, or feel you look for when renting a studio space???????

separate the front/place of business and lounge area from the set.

loose the pool table, no one wants loud noises when recording or editing.

if it's from scratch, properly wired electrical system for easy access with enough power and power distribution, with ups for editing bay.(maybe a generator for the rest of the studio)

quiet audio room comparable to a small audio studio for small audio touch ups, adr, sound fx.

you can combine the editing with the viewing area so it would cost less to make a better theater experience.(the editing and the projection screen don't necessarily have to be in the same room if you want to separate the two.)

Gotta have a lava lamp somewhere, and a book shelf with one book: "The Playboy guide to Jazz" I bet you could find one about filmmaking, that might just be more relevant.

Yeah you took my thunder when I saw "stripper pole" but I decided to post anyway :)

Almost everybody has listed the things I would really want at this point... the cyc wall... a lighting grid... a sound recording room (double wall construction, etc.)... and of course a separate front reception area from the back recording space.

The bar thing isn't so odd of a suggestion... in STL every studio type place has something like this... at the least they have a couple of real casual areas and I'm often times offered a beer or something... at some point in the day.

You'll have people in your studio that will be intimidated by the whole process and having someplace casual (for a break from the production side) is a plus.

wow great suggestions guys! i was thinking about the bar thing already, altho personally I've never been in a studio that had one.

I guess I can put that in place of the pool table since that was obviously a BAD idea. oops!

Does any one have Megan Fox's contact information? ;)

I was in LA for a friends adr work on major film a few years ago and they had a great pool table. The also had really comfortable couches and lots of hot woman walking around.

i've seen pool tables in post houses, but they were far removed from the mixing stages, which were soundproofed anyway.

a Money making machine.....though the last time I looked for one they were illegal....

Now seriously, I would make that white cyc in a conversible green/blue screen and white cyc. With a lot of productions using greenscreen it would be handy.
