So without going into too many details, i did some work last summer and never got paid for it. After this long i was expecting to not get paid for it, but i said if i ever get the 2 grand they owe me it would be a bonus since im ok without it at this point. I decided if it ever did come through i would put that 2k towards a 7D. The money finally came through and now that the T2i is out, i am planning on going that route. So if you had $2k to spend on a T2i and accessories, what would you spend it on?

This is my first DSLR, so i dont have any lenses or supports/shoulder mounts. I already have a HMC150 i do most of my shooting with and i have tripod/audio covered, so it would just be DSLR specific stuff.

Field monitor.

Obviously its a personal choice, but I've never gotten a viewfinder. I suppose it depends on your style of shooting and preferences.

Yeah but you are not going to get HD out on the t2i...

I would get good lenses, Halo Rig Mini, Comer LED, Shoulder mount, zaza slider. D|focus follow focus... hrm maybe I am going over.

What do you plan on doing with the gear? My advice would be to hold off on the viewfinder and field monitor and get set up with good glass. The Tamron 17-50 2.8 with VC is a good general purpose lens that you will end up using alot. For primes, I would get a Sigma 30mm 1.4. Or I would invest in a long 70-200 lens at 2.8. Canon will break your bank but Tamron and Sigma make them for around $700-800.

Finally a 16GB class 6 SD card to start out with. Patriot makes good cheap cards for around $30-$40. I have two and have had no issues so far (knock on wood).

That would be my starter kit. Actually that WAS my starter kit.

Definitely the Z-finder. Neither the LCD monitor nor an outboard display alone are good enough for critical focus- IMHO. Other than that couple of decent lenses, a tripod. To be honest $2K is not really a lot to spend on top of the camera but you could definitely swing a couple of decent primes and/or a zoom. The kit lens is nothing special.
